Quote for Laying lawn

Hi all

I had to have some digging works done in my back garden and now need to get the lawn redone - which effectively means power harrowed or similar. I have had a guy look at the garden and give me a price for the work.

He has quoted €1,400 for approximately a 450 sq metre area. This sounds bananas to me.

Does anyone know of anyone involved in laying gardens in the north cork area who might be cheaper

Thanks all

It should be very easy to get someone to power harrow it and then to spread the grass seed yourself. The big issue, would be that the lawn can be easily accessed with a power harrow. Then it shouldn't be that difficult.

Is there much levelling to be done to the site?

not a lot of levelling to be done to site but just don't have the time to do the work myself.

Don't forget it will have to be rolled as well.
Gardeners quotes always sound expensive, but if they are professional people with a good record, they're as entitled as any tradesman to a decent fee for their time, machinery etc. Suppose it's a bit like painters - we feel it's something we could do almost as well ourselves, that makes hiring a tradesman seem expensive.
Anyway, always worth getting at least 2 quotes. I'm not in your area so can't help with names, but good luck.

I am a landscape gardener very hard to respond to the quote you were given as it depends on how much work needs to be done. I am based in the Monaghan area and we generally charge around 1.15 plus vat per square metre depending on ground conditions and travel time. General work involved is spraying of all weeds, power harrowing, stone raking, fine raking by hand, pre seed fertilizer and finaling sowing of relevant seed mixture depending on use and requirement of customer. Last but not least advice on care of lawn.
