Where is the best place to stay for 1 night? Would we need to book our acc in advance? Is it worth going on a cruise? which one is the best - again should we book in advance? Any advise and infor. on these island would be great

Hmmm, sailing around the Whitsundays is incredible, don't waste a night in Airlie Beach, which if I recall was just the port/marina for the boats. There are 3 companies ,2 f which were very reputable, the 3rd had a poor name but was significantly cheaper.Sorry I can't recall their names.

I would agree with the previous posters on the sailing trip. We went on the Anaconda 2 - still in operation as far as I know. Its a maxi yacht and not too full of people. There is a cheaper outfit specialising in catamaran tours - not as good an experience.
Over 3 days and 2 nights (spent on board) you see the best of the Whitsundays and there is plenty of snorkelling, swimming and stops at the likes of Whitehaven beach,
I would avoid Airlie as much as possible. We cut our time there short.

The cruise is a great experience.

We went on the Solway Lass - a tall ship - which was brilliant. Its a little more expensive than the other boats, but then I think the food is better, and the other boats usually come along side to take photos of the Lass so its worth the extra.

Friends who we have recommended go on this boat have also had a great time.

Hamilton is lovely but v expensive...even the ferry off the island was dear

Firefly.
