Weekend in County Clare

Hi,

I am planning to spend a weekend in Clare the weekend after the May bank holiday weekend and would really appreciate it if people could help me with the following:

  • Can anyone recommend a nice B&B in Scariff? Ideally I would like to be within walking distance of the village as I intend on eating out in MacRuaidhris restaurant. Also where are the good pubs in the village now also – haven’t been there since I was in school (about 10 years ago)?
  • I was also intending on spending a night over near the Cliffs of Moher – what village / town should I stay in that’s easily accessible to these? Again it would be great if someone could recommend a B&B within walking distance of said village / town. I have heard Doolin would be a good base but would appreciate feedback for the wise users of AAM!
Thanks,
WB

Would have to be [broken link removed] for me, with seafood chowders and pints in the pub by the small factory where they smoke salmons (Burren Smokehouse??).

Hi Wb
Clareville House in Tuamgraney is a very nice B&B. Its fairly new and the owners Derek and Theresa are sound.
Have a look at the Scariff website www.scariff.com. It will give you all the info you need.
Tuamgraney is a nice village just a short 10min walk from Scariff. It also has a couple of pubs Hassetts and Teach Ui Bhriain. Teach Ui Bhriain also serves food all day. Breakfast, Pub Lunch and A la carte menu in the evenings. Be carefull not to stay after 12 o clock or you may be there for the night...
Mac Ruaidhris is a good choice for food. Nice menu and reasonably priced.
I dont know too much about West Clare but Lahinch is a nice spot. You have a nice beech, a few pubs and a few restaurants. Dont think there is much in Doolin except for a few pubs.

For the Cliffs of Moher, how about Liscannor? Bit more to do than Doolin.
Plenty of pubs and restaurants and very near Lahinch.

Doolin is best place to stay for the cliffs. If you are reasonably fit hire a mountain bike in Doolin and cycle up to the cliffs.
Can also get a ferry out to Inisheer (45 mins) or Inis Mor (90 mins) from Doolin pier. This is a lovely trip on a good day. Good Pitch and Putt at the pier also.
I totally recommend the Doolin Activity Centre to stay in - super rooms, v clean and modern and more space for yourself than in a B+B.

Mc Dermotts pub for your night time music and pint rather than O'Connors.
