Car parking at Point

Can anyone tell me what the situation is with parking at the Point at the moment? Their Web site is a bit unclear about whether or not any parking is available at the site itself, and whether or not walking is the only option from the car parks on the IFSC.

I was at Mammia Mia few weeks ago. No problem. Arrived at about 730 for the show which started at 8. No problem getting out afterwards either.

€5 as far as i remember.

They're building a multi storey car park on site AFAIK, so there's less parking on site while the building is going on. Depending on where you're coming from the walk from the IFSC car park is okay but we tend to park around Ringsend and walk across the East Link when we're going to the Point.

Thanks for the advice. I was there this evening at Disney on Ice (a good show if you're into that sort of thing).

The best advice seems to be get their early. We managed to do this, and got parking on the quay just a bit down, in front of Tile Style. They were still letting cars into the (much reduced) on-site car park at that stage (about 45 mins before the start).

I can't imagine what it would be like closer to the start: a bit of a nightmare I suspect, especially if the IFSC car parks fill up.

The new multi-storey card park should be a big improvement.

I heard of one person getting fairly rude treatment from the Gardai when she arrived at the Point car park gates after the car park was full (but before the show started).

Rude? Gardai? Surely not!

A couple opf weeks ago we arrived close to the Patrick's parade in a taxi (all buses going by full - well done Dublin Bus). Anyway, as we were dropped off (in a less than ideal position, I admit, but that was down to the taxi driver) we (and I include a three and seven year old in this) were literally screamed at by a motorbike cop to "f*** off out of there". Charming....

Another point to remember (no pun intended) is that The Point is in the City Centre and is easily reached by public transport.

You are joking of course?

Maybe you could elaborate on how you could get by public transport to within 1km of the entrance.

Well I didn't say The Point is the best served venue in Ireland by public transport, but no, I wasn't joking.

The Point is about a 1.6 km (1 mile) walk from Connolly Station (many bus, DART and train options). It's about the same distance from the junction of the North Strand and East Wall Road, again served by many bus routes.

The first option is probably the best and certainly the more pleasant route, a 15-20 min walk, much of it through the fairly salubrious environs of the IFSC.

Taxis are also widely available on the streets of Dublin if you must insist on getting to within 1 km :)

With a seven and three year old in tow, something nearer than a mile was needed.

Personally, I'd much prefer to use public transport: I've lived in the UK and Germany at various times and almost never brought the car into the city.

Unfortunately, I think public transport in Dublin **is** a joke: the major concert venue less than 2 km from the city centre and the nearest public transport (other than extremely rare buses) is more than half that distance away? I live on one Luas line and drive my duaghter to school. The school by the way is right next to the other Luas line. Only in Ireland.....

if you park 'around the corner' on the quays the 'lock hards' will nail you for a fiver anyway. buts its easier to get away from there.

Much quicker and safer to park South of the river and walk across the Eastlink.

This is the kind of baseless allegation that really p*sses Northsiders (me included) off.

I've been parking in that area for years, as have many of my neighbours and friends. Never a single incident.

Of course if you're coming from the southside and you want a quick exit (and don't want to pay the toll on the way back), it's a good idea.

Unsafe? Bah!

I live on the Northside but as a female I feel more comfortable walking across Eastlink than from the carparks in the IFSC. Nothing to do with Northside, I similarly feel nervous around Vicar St and that's on the Southside.
