Im just wondering whats the story with seats on planes. Im due to go to spain in July with all familly, for a wedding. Now my granny is a bit bigger than the rest of us and is worried that she wont have enough space in seat.

At the moment my mum is looking into it for her to see if anything could be done. We are flying with aer lingus.

Is there any bigger seats on planes or will she just have to be squashed? Is there more space in the exit row seats? any information would be helpful. thanks alot

i have worked in the airline industry
and as a policy your granny should be upgraded to first class
if not you should contact them on there policy

All the economy seats on Aer Lingus are the same width, however some have more legroom typically those at the exits and bulkheads. I presume it's extra width your looking for - the seats in Premier are wider by at least six inches and I'm sure Aer Lingus will gladly sell your a granny a Premier seat. I'm afraid your unlikely to get a free upgrade unless of course your granny is a recently retired Aer Lingus air hostess !

Larger people aren't allowed in exit rows for safety reasons. Best you can hope for is asking if there's an empty seat on the plane and asking if she can sit next to that and raise the arm rest. Other than that, the aisle seats will be most comfortable although she may prefer a window so as not to have to get up if people need the bathroom.

There is no premier class (bigger seats) on Aer Lingus European flights. The exit row seats will be narrower as the tray table is part of the seat rather than on the back of the seat in front. There will be more leg room in the exit row.
Either be squashed or buy 2 seats.

What size is this person, more than 20 stone and more than 6ft 2, is her more than 44 ins W if not more than this, she will fit in standard seat.

Is there anyone really slim or a child travelling with the wedding party? Maybe they can sit beside your Gran and raise the armrest between the two seats allowing your Gran to overlap slightly into their seat.

It depends on your definition of "fitting"!
As a poster pointed out earlier it's doubtful whether she will be given an exit seat. You have to have reasonable physical strength and be willing to help others if you're in these seats. The best bet would be requesting an empty seat beside her.
