Looking at booking a holiday in a French Holiday Park. Can anyone recommend a good Park close to Roscoff ferry port as we have young kids and don't want to do too much driving. Came across Siblu domaine de kerlann, seems okay. Appreciate advice.

Hi there, Use a company hello france or welcome france or campotel and tell them what you want out of your holiday and they will advise you. Make sure that you have entertainment at night its great to bring the kids to the bar and get them home early and into bed if you have a road trip set for the next day then you are not the kill joy bringing them in while other childern are out playing. Would never go to apartment complex again with kids after doing france with the kids. this is our third year to do this holiday but we went to palmyer (7hrs) and marrennes (6hrs) from ferry. this year we will be doing the vendee (4 hrs).

Sorry Fago but totally disagree that poster should contact any of the companies like Camphotel, etc. We bypassed them last year and booked Brittany Ferries (excellent - but make sure you have cabin with kids particularly) directly and took one of the resorts from the Keycamp brochure and googled them and then booked directly. Saved over 1600 euro booking direct (I had got a quote from Keycamp prior to booking myself). That was our first year in France with two small children and would recommend booking directly.

I totally agree with Happy Girl and had the exact same experience (saving €1500). We stayed at www.lagrandemetairie.com in Carnac (2.5 hours from Roscoff) and would highly recommend it with children.

I would agree with the above comment. We've stayed there also, booked directly, it's a super site although you'll have to drive to the beach. The ferry from Cork usually gets in around 07:30 (on a Sunday, not much open in France) and many campsites will often state 'arrivals after 15:00 only' which means you may have some time to kill, maybe stopping off in Morlaix and Quimper.

The "La Grande Metairie" site in Carnac is a great site and we go there every year. I tried many campsites over the years and this is the best in my opinion. It's a 2-3 hour drive from Roscoff. Sometimes, you can get cheaper accommodation from Kelair/Compotel (Ballinasloe, Galway) by booking an "accommodation only" holiday with them than even by booking at the campsite directly. In the off-peak, season, it's much cheaper. Look at their brochure and compare the prices. Most of their units also have wooden decking and barbecues - enquire. These often cost a lot more with other operators. (I think that they're also the best value for the complete holiday package, if you go that route.) You can book your own ferry. Brittany Ferries have a better ship but are more expensive and sail less frequently than Irish Ferries. I believe that I.F. are upgrading their ship for 2008. Another advantage of Irish Ferries is that you arrive later in the day and have less time to kill - which can be a problem with small children. Also, the sailing home is probably at a better time. In relation to travel/vehicle breakdown insurance, I found Cornmarket to be the cheapest by far. Bonnes Vacances!

Would you think that two weeks might be too long to spend at that resort (even though it looks great)? Do kids get bored? Is there another resort out there that you might split with in a two week holiday? Thanks

10 days would be perfect, 14 might be on the long side. Maybe consider Bénodet. It's a seafront town/village and quite pleasant. It's 10 miles from Quimper and there's a boat that runs up the Odet river from Bénodet to Quimper also. There are a number of campsites within a few minutes walk of the promenade in Bénodet. This thread might be useful also.

OK I just booked KeyCamp in Benodet for 4 nights (through the .co.uk site) and 11 nights in La Grande Metairie (direct). Thanks everyone for your advice. Where would we all be without AAM??

Have a wonderful time Squonk. With regard to checking in at LGM - we arrived at around 11am on a Sunday morning (1st Sunday in July last year) and we had no problem checking in at that time, so you might be lucky. I remember we just parked up, got out the swimming gear and the kids were in the pool within a few minutes! :)

If you have less than perfect weather, I'd highly recommend heading to [broken link removed] in Brest or the Zoo in Pont Scorff. Both are a fantastic day out
