Does anybody have a view on stainless steel kitchen worktops? They seem to be perfect, in that they look clean, sparkling, seem hygienic, etc. No real 'downs' (except for the price), but I may be wrong. Does anybody have them in their kitchen, and if so, how good/bad are they?

We've had stainless steel kitchen worktops for ten years - went straight to fabricators with an accurate template and it didn't cost the earth. As long as you resign yourself to the fact that they don't look 'pristine' for very long (you'll get scuff marks from cleaning it down - ends up like commericial kitchen surfaces) it's very practical, and looks great imo.

They're everything you say they are (as for practicality and hygene, they're not used in commercial kitchens for nothing), BUT they will not look like new for long. Regardless of what you do, they WILL mark and scratch. No problems with this, but just don't expect them to remain prsitine. Probbaly best to check some out that have been installed and used for a couple of years to see what you can expect.
