Hi

Anyone know which is better - induction or a ceramic hob ??
Induction hobs seem to be that bit dearer.
Are they a better buy in terms of control of heat & cooking ??
Confused

AFAIK there are some previous threads with info on this so run the search option in this forum and you should get some advice.

Thanks Sueellen

Just did a search. Seems induction is cheaper to run in the long term & easier to clean as the base of pan gets warm rather than the cooking ring.

Will have to invest in some new cast iron or enamelled saucepans though as induction won't work with standard stainless steel.

Have some Le Creusetpans. Will they or won't they work??
the threads weren't clear in this regard

To test any saucepan just put a magnet up against the bottom. If it sticks then it is fine. Got an induction hob last year and it is great.
Very fast to react.

Good to hear, thanks Beldin.
Have been so used to cooking on gas (successfully) that was nervous about using electic hobs. They haven't had great press. Sounds like induction way to go.

Incidentally where would I buy a magnet.....

My parents have an induction hob and it's much better than a ceramic hob but gas is still better.
