Walk in Pantry

I am building a new house and am considering putting in a walk in pantry/larder press in the kitchen. Does anyone have one and how do you find it. Any help on the design would be great and what size it would need to be. I have searched the internet and magazines and I can't find any pictures of pantries.
Thanks.

how do you find it

surely its where you left it :D

I didn't have space for a walk in job but got a larder press instead; summit like this. Loads of space, great quality and I LOVE IT - purchased through a local kitchen designer, not in-store.

A walk in pantry is basically a room with shelves, no? My brother has one in his house and it appears to me to be just a place for out of date food storage .....but then again he is not the most organised of people in that regard!

I've got one in my new build - it's just a small room, with shelves - you don't 'buy' one.....just stud up one.

Couple of reasons why they're great:
1. Easy to see & get stuff out of
2. Fewer kitchen units = cheaper kitchen
3. Fewer kitchen units = bigger kitchen - and no high, stupid units on the wall
4. No limit on what you can put in a larder.......long/tall/short/heavy etc etc

Agree with galwaytt. I have one also. approx. 1.5m wide and 2.5 m deep. I find it great. Shelving need not be expensive ans everything is visible. I used the adjustable steel shelving and with the plastic coated wood all came in under 200 euros. It saves having to fill your kitchen presses with food and you can shop less often too. If using UFH don't forget to leave out the pantry.

yes, good one - forgot to mention to omit UFH in the pantry.

Unless you want all yer spuds to grow tubers overnight that is ??

We have a walk in larder which I think is great, you can see what food you have so you don't need to go rooting in presses. I think because you can see what you have you are more likely to not have out of date food in them as someone mentioned.

If your larder or pantry is on an exterior wall it is a good idea to have vents (we have 2) to the outside, this ensure that the larder is cooler than the rest of the kitchen. Put some electric point in the pantry too.

I'd say go for it.

Hi, good idea about the vents to the outside wall, but just wondering what you use your electric points for....?
