I am thinking of buying one - in the past i didnt like styling of any of the cars in he lexus range. anybody bought or driven one of these, comments?

of the few reviews I read I heard the diesel engine & gearbox are not a match for the BMW 320d but they look 10 times better. I would suggest you test drive one to get a feel for it

A friend test drove 1 at the weekend. he said you need to rev the hell out of it to get anything out of it. The boot and interior is very small compared to others in the class. Otherwise he thought it was nice but he's not interested now

The 2.2 diesel engine has come in for some criticism from most of the motoring press. Nice car though amd should be very reliable.

For a Lexus the engine is a big dissappointment. It's pretty coarse and agricultural.

The rest of the car is fine. Well built.

Engine not very refined on start up. Gear ratios too long. Can only use 6th on a motorway. Very tight in the cabin and heavier on the juice than BMW320d/Audi A4tdi 140/170. Otherwise the best looker of the compact execs with bulletproof reliability.

Have driven the Lexus and to be honest would be holding out, put the extra few € together and get a 320D SE, far superior engine.

I have one. They are a lovely car to drive lots of power espically from the 50 - 140 mark. Boot is a bit small. there is a good radio in them.

I have tested two tanks of diesel now one returned just over 30MPG combined and the other a shocking 27.9. This was on half driving from the west to dublin and the other half in the city.

Any one else have consumption figures. Also does anybody know what the lexus priviliege card entitles you to?

27.9 mpg! Good god that's shockingly poor for a diesel.

Did you leave the handbrake on?

perhaps that was the problem

I think the key is to keep the revs below 2000. This is hard though as you find yourself in 3rd gear a lot to get up speed due to lack of pull in higher gears...

Sounds like the tall gear ratios are a big negative issue on this car.

I thought the whole idea of a diesel was that it pulled like a train from low revs, so that you could use the higher torque?
