The croker roar?

Watching the rugby yesterday was really great , showing repect for GSTQ was mature and makes better for a better future on these Islands. But my issue is the commentators on the TV both BBC and RTE kept going on about the loud roars, ie when Ireland ran out on the pitch hugh roar they said again when O Driscol came off, I know my TV is working fine but the loud roar never came across on TV as they made out. watching the premiership on RTE the roar at the Premiership games seemed louder. Is it just commentators adding things to sound better or what, any big game I have watcted the Dubs playing on Tv the roar has been much louder than that of the rugby roar.I hate the BS .

I usually prefer to watch the rugby on BBC because they allow you to hear more of the crowd noise. RTE seem to block it out somewhat so that the commentators can be heard. Having lived close to Lansdowne for some years, I can assure you the crowd roars! Missed it yesterday.:(

was at match and roar when irish team came out was massive. watched it on tv later and didn't come across half as loud. very hard for tv to carture atmosphere. it was one of those 'you had to be there' days.

Was at the game too and watched it when I came home, TV just didn't capture the volume of it, which was amazing. I'm a regular at Croke Park and don't think I've ever heard TV capture the sheer volume of a crowd there, especially on Leinster final/All-Ireland semi and finals day. It all depends on the number and placement of the microphones, and how loud the different channels want the crowd noise to be, versus the commentator's voices.

Not only that but the Irish in-game commentary tends to be awful. Standard fare for match day (for myself) is RTE build up, BBC Commentary, RTE post match.

Had the pleasure of being there yesterday. The crowd certainly did roar (why for O'Driscoll over everyone else I don't know - it was a team performance) and anyone I chatted to after the match had lost their voice.

I've only been to an All Ireland Semi Final (involving Galway hurlers) so couldn't say what it was like compared to a final. Saturday certainly bet the pants off the semi final though.

Hard to compare, All Ireland finals the two I have been at are rarely held in the lashing rain and with such an obivious disparity in talent and passion between the sides (although Mayo Kerry was poor).

But I have never felt anything like the atmosphere before the anthems were sung it was really brilliant and for about the first 20 mins after that there was only one side going to win. Far better then the French game, where I thought the atmoshere was pretty low key it seeed to be a much more corporate affair at the French game to me.

Its amazing to think how far we have come it seems like a lifetime ago when we shipped 50 to them in Twickanham. In fairness to the English I have always found them to be the most gracious of losers and winners and they did not disapoint it what most have been a gut wrenching defeat in its ineptitude.

It leaves you thinking, if this side cannot win a G.S will we ever win one again?

I prefer AIF atmosphere but then it means more to me, I think the biggest problem is the make-up of the crowd in that there are so few english there, so you don't get the same banter either pre-match or during the game. In saying that it was pretty impressive (my first time there under lights), but it would have been miles better had the game been close.

Maybe... but i wouldn't have changed it. The memory of a potential Grand Slam 4 years ago in Lansdowne and being embarrassed by Wilkinson, Greenwood (who took the p1ss in that match) etc still burns.

Yeah, personally I don't think any sporting occasion compares to All-Ireland final day, football or hurling. The closest I've come to it was an FA Cup final at Wembley many years ago, hairs standing on back of neck stuff. I agree, the fact that 90% (??) of Croke Park on Saturday was behind one team was partly what made it so fantastic, but I still prefer a 50-50 split in the crowd, creates a brilliant sporting atmosphere, rather than a carnival type mood, if ya know what I mean.

I do agree that TRE do a good pre and post match programme. I think their commentary is good too but there is a huge difference in their croud sound effects compared to BBC or Sky.

Ah that RTE commentator is not very good. I don't think he even mentioned the fact that it was a record victory (could have missed this though what with all that crowd noise :))

Sad soul that I am I taped the game on both RTE and BBC and watched them both when I got home .

Gutted that BBC NI and their rubbish commentators took over from BBC England during the game, really wanted to hear Brian Moore talk his way out of that one. :)

In fairness to smilie Rylie Nugent he did mention the fact that Ashton had led Ireland to its record defeat by England, and had now led England to its record defeat by Ireland.

Not sure if this is the correct thread, but there is a connection.

My brother-in-law, his daughter and grandson went across for the game using a well known English coach/holiday company. They paid £350 each for coach, ferry, hotel and seats at the game. Everything was great until they were told that there was a problem with tickets. The problem turned out to be either no tickets or standing tickets, depending on where in the queue you were. ( Should point out that the tickets were supposed to be supplied by an agent in Dublin to the travel company.)
It turned out that those people who got the tickets and went to the ground were turned away because the tickets provided were fake.

Clearly the travel company will be nailed over here, but I was wondering if anyone over there had heard of similar problems?
