I want to uninstall windows and office 2000 from my old computer before I pass it on to a relative. Can I install one of those free operating systems and office suites to replace the Microsoft stuff. If so can anyone recommend same? I've been looking around but afraid to take the step of downloading stuff I'm not sure of. Thanks.

I've heard of tiny xp and xp lite but not sure if it's leagal or not:confused:

Alternatively you could go with Linux that's free but lots of ppl dont like it cause it doesn't supports NTFS HDDs and is a little tricky to get used to.

Thanks snakebite trying to stay legal in my old age. Clubman I will suss out those two sites. If you recommend them they must be OK. Thanks.

Just a word of warning on something you may of course be aware of, but if the Windows licence is an OEM one it stays with the machine.

Download and burn a Ubuntu live bootable CD and try it out first before committing to it.
