Hi there, just wondering if somebody could guide me on the most suitable type of a radon barrier to use. i've phoned a few local stores this morning getting prices and ended up totally confused!!!! i was quoted 230euro for a 100sqm roll of reinforced radon and 93euro for an 80sqm roll of non reinforced whilst 35euro per roll for 1200g polythene. i thought that polythene could be used as a dpm but i wasnt aware it could also be used as a radon barrier our house will be 296sq, could anybody please tell me whats the best practice method and also inform me if the dpm is laid directly on top of radon barrier, thanking you in advance for your attention

Polythene can be used as a DPM but not as a radon barrier. Most radon barriers will however act as a DPM. The reinforced radon would be better as it would be durable and not tear as easily. You will have to add on the cost of the taping of teh joints/laps and this could be more expensive than you think. Depending on where you live you could get a subbie in to supply and lay the radon barrier for around 7/8 per m2

Anything useful on the or http://www.environ.ie/DOEI/DOEIPol.nsf/wvNavView/wwdConstruction?OpenDocument&Lang=en (DoE) (e.g. here) websites?

Try the IAB website, [broken link removed] then search on radon protection, there are a number of approved products listed. You are best to go for a reinforced type as it will be more durable to site conditions.
