Hi, Apologies firstly if this has been asked before but did a quick seach and couldn't find answer.
Planning on heading to Dubai for holiday at Easter. My passport goes out of date in July this yr. Does the 6 month in date requirement apply here? If so is is just a matter of getting another one?

Thanks

Had the same problem with my passport so I rang the Department of Foreign Affairs and they say that Irish passports are valid for 10 years, however different countries require your passport to be at least six months in date when you leave their county. Best thing is to ring the passport office because they have a list of which countries require the 6 month thing.

If your travelling in April you can order your new passport from An Post and you will get it back in 10 working days for an extra fee.

Think that only applies to American Passports going to Dubai as far as I know.
I was in Dubai and one of the passports had not 6 months left on it when we came home.

From the site linked above...

A vailid passport is essential for travel to the destinations featured in this brochure. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months AFTER you return home. The visa recommendations are for Irish passport holders only, non Irish passport holders should contact the relevant Embassies for entry requirement details.
It doesn't state that an Irish passport must be valid for 6 months, but it is a site especially for Irish travellers (as can be seen from the Visa comment) so I would assume the 6 month rule does apply (I've no connection with the site so I've no idea how correct or otherwise the information may be. Contact the embassy if in doubt).

Your best option is to give the nearest UAE Embassy (London?) a call. They should be able to confirm for you.

A general guideline:

Travelling within EU - As long as the passport is still valid you can still travel no matter how long left on it; just be sure that it does not expire when you are out in that country.

Travelling outside the EU - A minimum of 6 months is required from the date you plan to leave that country.

Of course this is not a hard & fast rule; if you are concerned, contact the relevant embassy/consulate.
