Hi,

Just like the title, want to change the chime of my door-bell as it's very irritating? What would ye suggest? Hardware places do it or websites online???

/G :)

Oh Ok I get what you mean now.
yes you can also replace the chime section separately - although you might have to go to an electrical supplier for this.

Check out a hardware store, but be careful, most doorbells (chime sections) are wireless these days and personally I don't think they're up to much (require battery). A good old-fashioned local hardware store might be the best bet, that's where I got one for my mother recently.

Potential typo/error on Maplin's site at the moment, but [broken link removed] wireless door chime with clock, calendar, and temp read-out is £6.98 down from £69.98.

They also have [broken link removed] one for £19.99 that allows you to record your own chime up to 10 seconds in length.

I have 3 different doorbell chimes which I can switch at the press of a button one of them is a growling dog which sounds very convincing, about a month ago I saw a car comming up the driveway when I saw who got out of the car I knew exactly that he was an insurance man because he had a folder as I only had installed the doorbell the previous week I said this was a great chance to try it out so I swtiched it to growling dog up he came to the door and pressed the button, he turned around so fast and ran to his car that he almost left a trail of smoke after him. The doorbell was the best purchase that I made in a long time.

I'm sure it still applies just as much now as when I was a kid but if we got to hear of an unusual doorbell we spent our time in and out, in and out ringing the bell just to hear the unusual tune. IMHO probably more of a nuisance therefore than a help.

I live in the country theres no problem with youngsters hanging around, by the way the growling dog sound comes from an outside speaker located in the garden. I only use it on rare occasions when insurance men call.

I didn't buy it a relation of mine in america works with a demolition crew he got the doorbell in an old house before it was torn down. He was at home for christmas and brought it with him as a present for me. I don't know if they are still in shops.
