Flights to Mexico

Has anyone any experience of travelling to Mexico? I know that Continental and Delta both fly to Guadalajara via certain american airports from London Gatwick, but was wondering if anyone has flown to Mexico from Ireland (north or south of the border)
Most flights seem to be from charter companies and part of package holidays, generally they terminate in Cancun, whereas I would prefer to fly to Guadalajara or Mexico city.
Any help with this would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks

i did flight only through one of the holiday companies to cancun, you'd probably save a lot by doing that then flying from cancun to mexico city rather than going through the states

There are no direct flights from Ireland to Mexico, apart from the charter flights.

To get to Mexico city you can also try:

British Airways via London Heathrow
Air France via Paris CdeG
Iberia via Madrid/Barcelona
Lufthansa via Frankfurt

Not sure what other airlines fly direct from European cities, and not sure who flies direct into Guadalajara.

Prices vary, but last time I went I got a reasonable deal with BA.

Going to Mexico in a few weeks. Flying from Dublin to Cancun via Atlanta with Delta cost about €700 return.

Best bet is either Delta as mentioned above or else fly Dublin/Shannon/Belfast via Newark with Continental.

If you want to fly just to Mexico City going then through one of the European Hubs is probably less hassle as you don't have to clear US Immigration (which you would have to do if transiting through Newark/Atlanta etc. - even if making a direct international to international connection you still have to fully clear US immigration now)

If you want to fly directly into Guadalajara then Delta through Atlanta is probably your best bet as you can do it with just the one stop in Atlanta. (Continental do fly to Guadalajara too but only from Houston so you'd have to fly Ireland-Newark-Houston-Guadalajara).

Edited to add - I flew Mexico city with BA from Heathrow about a year ago - flight departs and arrives from LHR at around lunchtime - so okay for connections in either direction (though you do have to trek over to Terminal 4) .. but doesn't operate every day, only 3 or 4 times a week... Arrives in Mexico around 7pm and Departs back for London around 9pm

I flew to Mexico city last Easter with Air France via Paris CdeG. The flight was fine and the service on the plane was great (as many free drinks as you wanted). But my baggage was delayed and it didn't arrive until 2 days later.
Relations of mine flew with KLM on the same day via Amsterdam. The service wasn't as good from their reports but they had no baggage issues.

KLM via Amsterdam Schipol

I've been down to Mexico working a number of times over the past 18months, and am heading down that way again in the coming weeks. The KLM via Schipol is brilliant.
The night flight back leaves MEX about 9pm, and its usually fully booked. The flight down to Mexico (City) is never full.
Check-in about 3 hours before your return flight in Mexico, which is terrible. (1 international airport, 24 million people. you work it out)

Don't get the VW Beetle taxi's from the airport. Very few are registered taxi's, and 20-30 people are kidnapped every day over there at the moment. A car and driver for the week can work out very economical.

Hi I would agree that going through Amsterdam is hassle free.
went first time this was dub -ams -mex city (KLM)
2nd time dub -madrid - mexico (iberia)and my luggage went missing both ways for 5 days nightmare.

Klm seem to be a far better operation than Iberia.
