I'm looking at a 05 Hyundai Tuscon, just wondering if anyone has any opinions on them? Thanks.

Not actually that bad. It's the same as the KIA one. There prob one of the cheapest ways of getting into that market just like the Santa fe is in it's market. Drives okay, Looks pretty good. Good warranty still on it, The first owner took the loss. Middle of the road kind of car. Most of the cars in that market are over priced, Rav 4 etc, The new Suzuki looks good as well.

My wife has one, it is nice looking, very maneuverable and Hyundais have good warranties and reliability scores
Excellent cabin space, great for toddlers. Good visibility

Boot space is not as big as other SUV because of spare wheel but easily takes double buggy and shopping together.

Very comfortable over long distances

The downside with this and other SUVs is higher fuel consumption and higher road tax.
Our Tuscon is rarely driven during traffic hours so you should take the mpg/kmpg into consideration.

A friend down the country uses it on clear roads and states mpg is not bad but again don't have exact figures

whats the current situation witrh SUV in terms of tax wise? do they get taxed much heavier based on their engine size or catergories?
i.e. SUV

so a 1.8 litre SUV would be taxed same amount as 1.8 saloon?

Yes everything is like for like. I stated 'higher road tax' as typically SUV are larger engines at a starting size of generally 2.0l apart from some suc as older RAVs and Freelanders etc

I like the look of the KIA as well

I have an 05 Hyundai Tucson and love it. The road tax is 539euro p/a for the 2.0l pertrol version. I get about 450km out of a tank of petrol €55-60 when driving in Dublin traffic at peak times - more if I'm out on the open road.

Only complaint is that the boot is a little small.
