I'm currently in the process of designing my dream house and I'm wondering which is the best option for a cooker.
Any ideas?

Just got new cooker and went from all gas to gas hob and electric cooker. No complaints. I suppose a lot depends on how much and what type of cooking you do.

One thing to consider is that if you have a set-up as described by mf1 you are much less likely to be without the means of cooking something in the event of a power cut or indeed a problem with gas supply.

Any ideas?

For the stove-top, gas! No question about that. The heat comes on instantly when you turn it on, the heat goes off instantly when you turn it off.
You know those cold winter nights when you decide to make yourself a hot drinking choclate with rum, and the pan of milk is about to boil over? With gas, you just turn it off. With electric, you nearly scald yourself trying to remove the pan and find a place to move it to.

As for the oven and grill, go electric. Faster, retains the heat better.

If you want the clenliness of electric but the responsiveness of gas then you could get an induction hob.

I've cooked with both gas and electric before and love the way gas responds so quickly. An induction hob will give you the same control. I got one when I built a new house last year and it is the "bees-knees". A little bit more expensive to buy than a standard hob but in my opinion well worth it if you like cooking. Cheaper to run than a standard electric hob as it uses less power.

Only problem is, you may have to replace all your pots and pans as the induction only works with certain types of metal (non ferrous?).
