Stayed at the Adelphi a few years ago. Right in the city centre. Not sure it a 4* though.

Adelphi is a dire hotel, avoid like bird flu.

Marriott City Centre is 2 minutes from train station, pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc..,

Personally I'd go for the Radisson on Old Hall Street, 5 minutes from train station. Excellent hotel. Can't fault.

Other central options for you are Holiday Inn City which is directly across from the train station, or Travel Lodge Central down the shopping district.

Liverpool is tiny and all city centre hotels are witin 10 mins walk of Lime Street, which add, Holiday Inn Express and Crowne Plaza to your options.

I remember the Adelphi from the BBC programme and was looking forward to staying there when I was there last year. I had a lovely old fashioned room and had a great nights sleep. Odd residents bar. Buffet breakfast with anything you can think of - mostly greasy I suppose. I got a great rate via stenaline but would have been upset to have paid full price. It is old world, a little bit quaint little bit in need of refurbishment. I recall a card for escort service had been shoved under the bedroom door when I returned to my room ........with my wife !

Yes I agree, stay away from the Adelphi, unbelievably bad service and attitude towards the Irish. The Marriot is a great hotel and great leisure facilities although the Bar Service is quite poor and not a great Residence Bar, The Thistle Hotel isnt too bad either although it's not right in the City Centre but not too far, a couple of quid in a taxi from the Train station.

Premier Lodge Hotels have good locations usually & I heard it's the same for Liverpool Hotel - not 4 star, but has everything you need, clean, firendly staff etc...

Stay in Albert Dock just a few minutes walk, lovely views, restaurants and trendy bars. Holiday Inn and Premier Lodge are great value for money and the hotels are new and modern.

Oh no. I booked the adelphi for me and some mates for february. is it really that bad?

Stayed in the Adelphi last May. Its an old hotel but its grand for a bunch of lads. i was with the wife and we didnt eat or drink in it. I also had an escort agencies card shoved under the door!!!

Also stayed in the Holiday Inn in Albert Dock which was very nice. Its a 10min walk to the shopping district but there are good bars and restaurants around the area.

Gladstone 2 mins walk from train station.
Was a bit rough but now done up and renames the Liner.
Stayed a few weeks ago friendly and clean.

Holiday inn on Lime Street - Gr8 location 2 mins from city center, serve u booze all night- went with a group of lads.

Grahamo.....I stayed there a few times (when I was allowed go to Liverpool, ahh, they were great days, Phil Babb, Stan Collymore, Trigger, white suits......) Anyway, although it's been a while I suspect The Adelphi is as it was....Dated ! It will be grand for your needs I reckon ! Great city...Are you going over for a match ??

The liverpool fans in the group will be watching a match. There will also be some United fans like myself who will be heading to the pub for the day as United are playing in London that weekend. We have to do it as we've dragged them to Manchester often enough!

Hope tobe Heading over For Pool v Middlesborough April 18th. Any other accomodation recommondations?

Definitley the Radisson
and for a 4* hotel, it is almost as cheap as the Adelphi & Gladstone
Adelphi & Gladstone are fine hotels, I would stay in the Gladstone over the Adelphi

p.s. All the away teams stay in the Radisson so you get to meet them in the lobby about 1pm on match day for autographs, pictures & a bit of slagging

I also found that last match I was trying to get accomodation for, I tried all the 2 & 3* hotels and all were booked out. Never really considered the 4* Radisson as thought it would be too expensive, but it wasn't and they had plenty space.
It also never feels mobbed on match weekends

Also, for a Liverpool home game, it is much cheaper to fly into Manchester that weekend and get the train up or if there is 4 of you, get a taxi. Train is about tenner but a taxi is about 60 between 4 and less hassle, but the train service is excellent and they have a terminal at the airport in Manc that brings you right into Lime St

Thanks TOSullivan -the game is on a Wednesday -hope todo the stadium tour on the Thursday.

anyone got views on the marriott city centre hotel versus the thistle hotel in liverpool. Have made reservations in both - having made phone reservations, as online reservations showed both as being fully booked/much more expensive in the marriott's case. both worked out at roughly the same price (marriott being £1 cheaper). need to cancel one so any views on which one? Its a birthday treat for the other half - trip to anfield included, staying 4 nights so I'd like a bit of luxury after all that trecking around liverpool fc memoribilia etc.

ps radisson was €160/night so too rich for my blood!

Mariott City Centre over the Thistle any day of the week. They don't even come close to comparison.
