No plunger till I get to a shop, water will not go down sink clogged with excess bits of food etc, anything else that might help for the suction effect

I had this problem the other day after we got back from our holidays.

I put the old thinking cap on and found a tubberware lid that you have to press in the middle to seal properly. Our sink hole is big, central and in a bit of a dip. I placed the plastic lid over this and gave it a few "plunges" and it worked fine, caused a little bit if splashing but did the job.

Try some hardish plastic with a bit of a give in the middle if that's described ok???

Done it just now worked a treat thanks

If you cup one hand over the plug hole and pump it up and down with the other, that will work as well as any plunger. Works for me anyway....

Basically anything which will casue a bit of a vacume and "pump" out the lodged food/etc. from the pipe will work for this. So a hand, piece of plastic, whatever will cover the hold and allow you to pump a little to drag the lodgement up.
