Anyone have any tips on cheap weekend deals? I want to book a hotel somewhere for a weekend n Jan (possibly with a leisure centre).

I collected stamps with Spar recently and got an Irish Country Hotels voucher. You can avail of 2 nights b&b in selected hotels for €89 pp.
The hotels don't seem that great though. Most are very far away - Kerry Cork etc. There is one in Carlow - Seven Oaks Hotel, has anyone stayed here?

I have booked the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone for the last weekend this month. There are a group of us going. 2 nights B+B and one evening meal for €135 pps. They have a lovely looking leisure centre and spa. I have just booked appointments for that this evening -advised. So far all staff I have spoken too have been friendly, polite and helpful. I got some great recommendations for meals elsewhere for the Sat night and have booked that also as it was advised.
I'm certainly looking forward to it.

If any of you have your car insurance with Axa, they are doing a great deal at the moment.
You can get two nights B&B plus 1 dinner for €99 pps - I've booked into the Heritage in Portlaoise for the second weekend in February and even managed to get a free upgrade to a min suite.

You can use the voucher from Axa as many times as you like up to Aug 07 - great deal!!

Supervalu have very good hotels for €99 with full card of tokens. However, have they abolished the better value midweek breaks of 3 nights? I notice the local Supervalue store advertising the week-end offer only. This will be major disappointment to retired people who made great use of the midweek breaks.

Hotel Kilkenny (www.hotelkilkenny.ie) are doing good deals at the moment...€175pps for 2 nights B&B and 1 dinner (Fri & Sat). If you can go on a Sunday and Monday night, they do same deal but for €99pps.

i just booked this morning for the Clybaun Hotel & Lesiure Centre in Salthill for €69 pp for 2 nights!! the offer was on the back of a shopping reciept. there were 4 or 5 other hotels to choose from. all under the Dunne Group of hotels.
i thought that was a bit of a bargain!

You will often find good last-minute offers on Pigsback.com. You have to opt into their 'holidays' section in order to receive special offer emails. When I was in the hotel business, we used it a lot to get rid of late availability, and because the hotel doesn't pay commission on the sale (unlike to, say, lastminute.com or expedia.com), much of the saving is passed on to the customer.

No, they still have the 3 night midweek deal, booked on for Westport next month. They just don't seem to be advertising it much

A good site to look at is Wotif.com, they do last nminute prices for a number of good hotels in ireland and worldwide

We're going to the Station House Hotel in Clifden this weekend, two nights B&B and one evening meal €139 pps. Seems like a nice hotel and it's received good reviews on Tripadvisor for what it's worth.

That is prob the best deal around to be honest and it is a lovely hotel.

Nice hotel, you should enjoy it, but word of advice I wouldn't recommend the restaurant within the complex "Spagos Italian Bistro" - had a meal there in November last, courtesy of a gift voucher- very, very poor! Anyone I've spoken to says likewise. There is a new restaurant in town, called Les Olives, bit more upmarket and might be worth a punt (haven't eaten there myself yet but I plan to!).
