Hello, I am interested in traveling to New York around April 10-14th 2007. Checked flight prices for two people Shannon-New York return, over €1,100. Is this a normal price for this flight, it seems fairly pricey to me. Could anyone suggest a cheaper alternative? Thanks.

Isn't that Easter time so the flights are bound to be more expensive than normal. Having said that, the price doesn't seem crazily overpriced considering you are travelling during a holiday period. Not sure what your options are from Shannon but American Airlines and Delta both go from Dublin. You could also try going through a hub such as London with BA or Paris with Air France.

Aer Lingus and Delta fly to JFK from both Dublin and Shannon (some direct from both airports, some with stopover at either Shannon or Dublin. Continental also fly direct from both airports to Newark (EWR) in New Jersey which can be an easier commute to Manhattan than JFK with a direct train service from EWR to Penn Station. Try Orbitz.com for sample fares. American Airlines fly to Chicago from Dublin and Boston from Shannon.

Hello, Thanks for the replies. The time I'm looking at is at Easter, but the cost of flights anytime in April is only slightly cheaper (€50-80). If I want to go to NY do I basically have to bite the bullet and pay over €1000 for two people. Am I wasting my time trying to find anything substantially cheaper? Thanks again.

Have you tried other carriers/routes (e.g. via London)? Why confine yourself to AL or are the only direct carrier from Shannon to NY?

Have you tried Delta? I got flights at Xmas for only €370 each when all other airlines were quoting ridiculous prices. Some people have said on this forum that they found them quite bad, but to be honest I found them a lot better than Aer Lingus!

You should do a search on ebookers, that will throw up the cheapest options, then you can book direct with the airlines. We also recently booked flights Shannon to Newark with Continental in Feb and got those for €376 and I agree with others, it's far more convenient than JFK for the city.

It looks like you won't do a whole lot better than approx €550 pp on any website that I tried. Probably as well to take the direct route to either JFK or EWR rather than going via London or any of the major hubs. Way less hassle and shorter travelling time for the sake of maybe a few euros less. Might be no harm to give a travel agent a call, some of them may have better deals.
