We are looking at organising a get together for the family for a big birthday. There will be people travelling from Dublin, Cork, Limerick & Tralee. Has anyone got recommendations for a decent hotel somewhere below a line from Limerick to Dublin and ideally not more than 2.5 hours drive from any of the above locations.

Thanks

Christy

The Heritage in Portlaoise or Killenard? Killenard is a beautiful hotel with an amazing spa but it's seriously pricey!

We had a great family get together at the Ferrycarrig Hotel in Wexford during the summer. Staff there couldn't do enough for us and the restaurant food was top class. Might be a bit far from Tralee but it may be worth it. You could also look at somewhere like Mount Juliet but you would be talking serious money there. I haven't stayed in the Heritage in Killenard but it look fabulous from the lobby.

Have stayed in the Heritage - cleanliness good, rooms spacious, food good, gym average, pool small, staff friendly - it's a good 3 star.
Hodson Bay recently refurbished.

Easiest hotels to get to from the towns you mention are those located along the N7/N8. I'd be more inclined to Portlaoise side than Athlone as Athlone is harder to access from tralee.

Try the Blue Book for some good recommendations.

Oh, and you have to pay for parking in the Heritage - at least you did when I was there.

All the above are fine hotels but are ye fair to the people from Tralee? Wouldn't Tipperary be ideal? Easy by road N7 and N24, don't bring the car if you don't want to drive - Limerick Junction train station caters for all the places mentioned. Ballykisteen Ramada Hotel is beside rail station (has golf course and swimming pool etc). But for picturesque beauty try several hotels in beautiful Glen of Aherlow - Aherlow House Hotel, Glen Hotel, Ballyglass House Hotel - all a piece of heaven.

Stayed overnight in the Anner Hotel in Thurles recently for a wedding. Lovely hotel, clean spacious rooms, food was good at the reception, staff attentive. I believe it has a leisure centre also, but we didn't use it. Would recommend ! I think we paid €140 for 2, double room overnight B&B. Although if there was a group maybe you could get a wedding/group rate.

Th ehotel in Bunclody is very nice, i have no idea what it costs or what it's like to stay there but it might be worth a look.
