Ok have the LCD now to buy the speakers on a stand

Have a voucher for the

Going to buy the front speakers first and then see about rears etc

Was looking for wireless but they don't seem to be out there and if so not that good

The only place I can use the voucher is either Argos, Peats or Harvey Norman

Have the Argos book and see some Wharfadale, acoustic solutions and Ministry of sound

Anyone have any of these bought from Argos and if so what are they like ?

Not looking for a thump thump wake the neighbours just something with a good sound

Have to check out Harvey Norman in the week and Peats look a bit more expensive

Anyone got any ideas

no offence but those surround system in Argos are not up to the job....the price aren't cheap either..u should check out the performance before buying it...check out Currys.

Check out the forums on www.boards.ie or on http://www.avforums.com/ - there is a lot of information, which can be a bit daunting at first, but if you start reading through the threads you'll pick up some excellent information.

Also, if you just have speakers run from the LCD and no amp you won't get great sound.

Wireless speakers are still in their infancy and the quality is not as good as wired for two reasons: a. interference from other devices operating at the same frequency and b. capacity (wireless cannot handle the same amount of information as wired)(This is probably a bit of a generalisation and no doubt some wireless tech fanatic will correct me and tell me it's all down to impedence and not capacity)

Take a look at the all in one systems from Sony, Denon, Pioneer etc as a starting point - many audiophiles will poo-poo all in one systems and insist that seperate components are the only way to go but for many people they do a great job; they also have a higher level of wife-acceptability with less wires and bits hanging around!

As an aside I have a €400 all in one system for music and movies; my neighbour has a €5,000 stereo (just for music - he has an all in one for movies as well) - our mutual neighbour reckons mine sounds better!

Yeah you may see this post on boards also under the same Pseudo see what answers I can get
May check the avforum but think there is to much detail on here

Yeah rang Richer Sounds good choice there bought my DVD recorder there so may drop up to Belfast, something to do on a Sat. They do deliver but would want to hear them first

Went to the Philips store in Dame street they did not have much

clerys do bose...lovely systems.....about 1600 for a 3.2.1 sys...

I got some Bose speakers from Peats a few years ago.
Also have some JBL (I think) floorstanders from Richer Sounds (3 or 4 years ago, before they closed the Dublin store.

If you go this route, you won't be long spending quite a few quid, as you'll need a decent amp to drive them also.

Thanks to the arrival of young teddyk two years ago, the whole shebang is wrapped up nice and warm, nestling in the rafters of the garage.

Some of the other Bose all in one home cinema stuff looks and sounds fantastic, but it'll cost ya.
