Wood pellet storage area

Does anyone know what is the minium size storage area that is required for the pellets in order to get the government grant.

The grant has nothing to do with storage area. There is a flat grant of 4200 for a wood pellet boiler used as a central heating system. The standard way of storing pellets is usually a small 200 Kg hopper which gives about 10 days usage. You also have the option of storing pellets by bulk.

So to conclude, you get the grant for the boiler not for storage.

To get the grant doesn't the installation have to be done by a (SEI?) approved installer? In which case they should be able to tell you what's required?

Applying for pp at the moment and leaving a small storage room at back of garage for bulk storage of the pellets, was told by someone in order to aid of the grant one has to provide storage capacity for 6 months worth of pellets, cant find it on the SEI website though.

Thats not true as far as I know.

For your own reference, An area of 6 metres cubed would be sufficent to hold 3.5 tonne of pellets, which would be a little 6 months usage.

I've no knowledge of the SEI rules but this would seem very unusual. To put a timeframe on storage requirements would never pass as what I use in 6 months may last you 18 months.

If there was a storage requirement [e.g. 3 tonnes], I would presume it would be clearly (and explicitly) detailed on the SEI info. Your best bet is probably a quick call to one of the SEI approved fitters (you may well be calling them for quotes at a later date anyway) and benefit from the knowledge they have.

Have been approved for grant and there is no mention of storage area or amount of pellets that you need to have in stock. It would be unenforcable anyway - what happens when you take a hopper load from your 3 ton store? Are you supposed to go out and top that up then??
