Hi - a friend of mine is thinking of swapping an 02 celica 1.8 60,000 miles for an 01 Rav 4 1.8 65,000 miles with a cash back of 2,000 euros.

What do people think?

Swap for a Rav4 of first generation or Rav4 of second generation (change happen in 2001)?

Its probably not a bad deal if that person needs the €2000 or a car with bigger load space. I would personally hang onto the Celica though particularly if its in good condition. They have the potential to become future classics since Toyota stopped making them. Also the celica is a sexy and individual car with good performance and handling compared to the boring dull Rav4

No or wouldn't really want to. Its hardly necessary to have owned a car to have an opinion on it. The Rav4 could hardly be described as exciting or individual by even the most enthusiastic of owners.

Give me example of cars that exites you (in same category as Celica/Rav4 Toyota e.g. mass produced car) and that are individual?

The last one i found and that could be qualified has individual (e.g. tailored to his owner) is a Ferrari Enzo that got re-designed by Pininfarina into a P4.... BTW, that's $4m please (incl of the $1m to acquire the Enzo at the first place!)

Don't forget all those hideous little Punto's (can subsitute in any other car which never should be/have been modified here - the local Yaris springs to mind) out there which have been butchered (fair enough I'm not a fan of the original looks anyway, but besides the point) into the neon lighted, flared wheel arched, oversized rear winged monsters on the roads!

Then again, there are so many of them around they can't all be "original", so I take it back!

And as for the "exites", not exactly, it does provide emotion, but much more of anger than excitement.

While my little rant above should really be in Letting Off Steam, I mentioned it as it shows a point. Everyone has differents views/wants/needs/likes/dislikes in cars. If your friend requires and wants a Rav 4 then fair enough. Whether he is getting a good deal with the exchange is a very different question. A lot depends on the conditions of both vehicles. What would he get selling the Celica privatly? What would he be able to pick up the Rav 4 for in a cash deal? If he's working out with less or very little over the €2000 then it would appear to be a good deal.

The last one i found and that could be qualified has individual (e.g. tailored to his owner) is a Ferrari Enzo that got re-designed by Zagato into a P4.... BTW, that's $4m please (incl of the $1m to acquire the Enzo at the first place!)

By individual I mean that it has at least some character whether it may be good looking or particularly good at what they were intended to do, eg. recent Alfas and sporty Mercs. These are just two examples of cars that are mass produced but still manage to evoke some emotions as opposed to bland Japanese boxes. Nothing wrong with them its just that they are boring!

C'mon guys, keep the 'boring car' chat for Letting Off Steam or a separate thread please.
