Hi all ,
I just received this message from two seperate sites in my email. There is an attachment offering updates but I am reluctant to open it. These are not sites I have visited. I have zone alarm firewall set to medium and mc afee anti virus which has just expired ( coincidentally?) Any ideas would be appreciated....

Here goes

"......Mail server report.

Our firewall determined the e-mails containing worm copies are being sent from your computer.

Nowadays it happens from many computers, because this is a new virus type (Network Worms).

Using the new bug in the Windows, these viruses infect the computer unnoticeably.
After the penetrating into the computer the virus harvests all the e-mail addresses and sends the copies of itself to these e-mail
addresses

Please install updates for worm elimination and your computer restoring.

Try AVAST AV - its free for home use, just go to register, supply a valid email address and they will send you a reg code straight away (works for 60 days without registering) I use it and find it very good

OP ask yourself this question, how would a server/firewall know to send an email warning of this to your email address when an email address is in no way tied to a particular computer.

It's a spoof email.

You don't need to do anything except delete the email.

Have a read of this [broken link removed] You'll mostly find out about these spoof by doing a quick search on the main subject of the email.

Their current AV program has expired so some form of uptodate AV protection is needed - also some spam mails contain viruses

I would classify all spam as a virus to be honest, non fatal.

Edited original comment as obviously is relevant.

thanks for all those replies. I will look through the options and see what works for me. AV meaning anti virus software expired I think . To be honest I wasn't that thrilled with mc afee and it doesn't seem to last long until you renew subscription. I had AVG free but some stuff was still getting through namely my yahoo homepage would not come up when internet first connected, always re routed to the outer mongolia of search engines ( or is that outer Kasakhstan now?)
