Cheeky broadband request

We are currently looking at Broadband options and I am wondering whether anyone has had any luck chancing their arm with asking BT for a FREE wireless modem (it costs you 40 euro if you choose this option with them). I'm basing this on the fact that Eircom (who we have our phone with) are currently offering a FREE netopia wireless router if you sign up with them. Has anyone had any success playing one off against the other????? Apart from this, I'm leaning towards BT because of their free UK phone calls offer....

BTs packages are cheaper as they build in the rental. dunno about the cheeky request, no harm in asking.

you might want to consider the fact that Eircom are offering a contention ratio of 24:1 vs BT 48:1, for their 2MB package at €30

Have you had a look at Utv's broadband including Talk? Only €34.99 for 3MB with contention of 24:1 - ClicksilverPlus. National and UK calls are free off peak and at weekends. Even with rental added it still seems a better deal than Eircom's offer. For new customers it's only €16/month for the first three months. There's no connection fee and you can upgrade to a wireless modem for €39.99.

As you probably know you never get the speed that's quoted so 3MB is 2.5 and so on. Personally I wouldn't like a slower speed than 3MB but even if that doesn't matter Utv might still be worth considering. For an extra €6.99/month you can get free anytime calls - a recent addition.

You might want to do a search for BT billing on this site and boards.ie before you consider going with BT. What you might save (if your request was granted) might not be worth the hassle when you receive incorrect bills time and time again.

Despite some reservations in relation to billing issues outlined on AAM I got BT Broadband (wireless router option) some months ago; it was the best deal available that met my light usage requirements. The bills so far (3) have been spot on. I wouldn't get hung-up on a once off €40 outlay.
