Re: italy>lake and mountains

Stresa on Lake Maggiore should fit the bill perfectly. Have a look at
www.stresa.it You can even travel up the lake to Switzerland bringing your passport where it is checked mid lake by the Swiss border guards.

Just back from a week on Lake Garda. Stayed in Sirmione which is an old town on a 3km pensinusla on the south end of the lake. Very beautiful. Found the resturants to be about the same price as here, except for the wine and water which are cheaper.
Got the train to Venice one day (€20 return for a 2hr journey) and got the bus to Verona (1hr on bus) another day.
Had a rental car so drove around the lake another day. Found the people to be very friendly.

Second that and make sure you take in Veron too which is only a short drive away!

Enjoy

Lovely old paddle steamers ply Lake Garda. Ski lift will take you up a mountain on the northern shore. Fabulous.

Hi Guys

Where do you Fly in to for Lake Garda ? Any good websites to book Hotels etc ?

Thanks

When I went to Lake Garda I flew into Bergamo. Try 'Tripadvisor' for hotel. Also try ''the travel department' for trips to Lake Garda - they specialise in trips to this region, good tours, they use Hotel Liberty - excellent.

When we went to Lake Garda this summer we flew with Sunway into Verona airport. As ever, the travel end of things is a pain but I'd go back to the lakes region in the morning if I could. I've seen some excellent value deals in the windows of travel agents. I believe flying into Milan is also a possibility.
The lakes are beautiful in summer. A friend has just returned after a November trip and raved about the place. Seems its ideal all year round.

Have been to Lake Como several times and can't recommend it highly enough... Brunate and Cernobbio are particular favourites. A good selection of accommodation in Como itself makes it suitable for all budgets...

which of the towns on lake garda is most quiet and would it be quieter on lake como ,i dont want to go where there are to many tourists, was thinking of going next may .

Malcesine on Lake Garda is quieter and gets the evening sun as the other side can be in shade. Garda as distinct from Riva del Garda is also very nice.

Had a week in Garda last may. Stayed in Hotel Louise which was perfect.

Lovely staff, Great Food and a 10 min walk in to Garda town.

I would strongly recommend it.

If you want some adventure try the Canyoning. Great fun.
