Help - (Very) Basic Handyman

Can anyone recommend someone in city centre/northside who can do basic tasks, such as assembling/disassembling furniture (i.e. to instal new carpets and facilitate painting), taking up old carpets, fixing curtain rails, putting up a few shelves, etc? I have a few jobs which need doing urgently but just don't have the time myself - its not rocket science but you cant ask tradesmen to do these jobs either.

Many thanks

Sam

Some tradesmen would take offence to this. I would certainly employ a proper carper fitter to do mine. They would do a great job in a few hours and money well spent

It was to take up the old carpets, not to lay the new ones.

Sorry, Sam Maguire - wish I had such a contact but I swear they're gold-dust!

I am employing a carpet fitter (from the carpet shop!). What I want is someone who will do the horse work of taking up the carpet and removing (by disassembling) beds which are too big to be moved downstairs (its an inner city cottage), and then putting them back together again when the carpets are done. I know its basic but I would have thought someone might provide a service for this type of work. I've tried ads in Northside People and City Ads but no-one seems interested in a few hours work for the cash.

Just did a google on this, and there are plenty of "WANTED" handy man for ....

Any brothers/ in laws - that could help out?!

Sorry - misinterpreted the post. Have you tried your local Tesco/Superquinn ad board. Loads of handyman ads on these from my experience but never used them. Perhaps you may need to up your price or did they just refuse to do such a small job ?

Yah...they seem like gold dust alright....family are 2 hours away and not much use for that kind of thing!...looks like I'll have to try to do it myself....it wont kill me but just up to my ears at the moment (both work and personal stuff), pretty useless with furniture assembly and more than happy to part with a few quid to get the job done.

Thanks for replies anyway. My only chance is finding one of those flyers that come thro the door the odd time from eager Eatern European lads who are keen for any work/ Why did I bin the flyers!!

Niche in the market for a little business??

Yep. Tried the local Tesco, etc, but nothing even close to this kind of service offered. Also looked at buyandsell.ie. Asked the carpet shop (i've bought a few things there) if they had anyone but the lads in the shop werent interested. Asked the maintainance man at work but he and his team werent interested. Money never mentioned - I would pay over the odds at the minute (being a typical cash rich time poor lazy sod!) - just cant find anyone who would even be bothered doing it.

Hi Sam, you can try this guy, I've used him in the past.

Also - Google 'Man with a Van Dublin'
Brought up the following buyandsell.ie listings

Just to finish off this thread, I found Robert McCormack reliable and reasonabe - very easy to deal with. He's actually an electrician by trade but willing to do the smaller jobs as well (he has another lad with him). Think hes based in Dublin 15.

Thanks for the replies folks,
