Buying an MP3 player from the US

I'm in the market for an MP3 player and was thinking about the Zen Vision:M 30 Gb, has anybody bought anything like this direct from the States. I was thinking about getting it direct or via Shopthestates.com. Has anybody tried this route, any views? thanks
 
I bought (through a friend with an address in the US) a Creative Zen Sleek Photo for $205 online from Circuit City.

All you need to use a mains charger in Ireland is a travel adaptor-the voltage is the same.

Circuit City will not deliver to Ireland, and I couldn't use my own credit card.
 
Buy it from [broken link removed]. I bought my iRiver H10 on there for a fraction of the cost it would be here in Ireland and it included a 1 year warranty also.

Shopthestates can make purchases very expensive.

US is 110V, Europe is 220V...
Do you mean that the mains charger shipped by Create in the US takes anything from 100V to 230V (they generally all do i think)?

Yes, I think that is what I'm saying.

All I know is that I can plug it in and it works fine.

Yea. What you get is actually a transformer which input accepts anything from 110VAC up to 230VAC and outputs whatever the required voltage is (5V or 24V or something like that)

Most low voltage electronics work like this. Laptops, mobile phone etc. You will have to get an adaptor to change the US 2 pins to Irish 3 pin plug though. They only cost <€5 in any electrical shop.
DON'T cut the cable as more than likely the transformer is in the actual plug!!

I checked Shopthestates.com and its closed. However there are other companies (see below) who charge approximately €15 (€12) to deliver a 1lb package to ireland in 2/3 via DHL..not bad me thinks although there are setup charges
 
why dont you buy direct from creative themselves?

i bought mine off them, its free posstage on orders over 100 and their based in ballycoolin industrial estate of all places so no taxes payable when you recieve it and no bother on plug etc

id reccommend a zen to everyone! i bought my previous mp3 online and got stung for 65 euro on duty when it arrived which i hadnt expected .

I'm considering buying the Creative Zen M Vision 30Gb that I've seen on Play.com for €270........am I likely to get hit with any taxes on this....?

Otherwise I may be better buying from Creative directly.
