best alternative to smart?

Hi all!

Just wondering who are the best alternative to Smart. Was on the 3MB Broadband subscription with a free monthly line rental. Didn't have use for the landline much and the bill came to a total of between 42 and 52 euro a month which I thought was excellent.

Would like to know who are best value now that many people are switching from Smart? I'd still like to have a landline with broadband too.

If your looking for a similiar package then the best value for money is...... Smart.

Phone customers must change. BB customers (BB+Phone package) don't! Your being upgraded to 6mb for free (if available) and shouldn't run into any issues with it.

Other offers available from Perlico, Bt etc. but Smart is the best value atm IMHO.

(Look at AAM for posts on 13434 and you could reduce your call bill [even if it's only at €7] even further)

I have been looking at Magnet lately.
They have a good higer end package for €62 a month, 4 meg Broadband 512k upload & all local & national calls are free.

2mb slower BB, €27 dearer per month.... for what otherwise seems to be the same deal (smart also offering local and national calls for free with the package).

I thought Smarts free calls were only to other Smart customers.

Possibly, no disclaimer to this given on the home page, but can't say I looked into it fully.

I still wouldn't see the costs of any national/local calls making up the difference in the costs (all national/local calls available for 5cent using 13434).

It would on my bill, it averages €200 for two months..
Isn't the 6mb download from Smart only till december in compensation for the disconnections by eircom?

Depending on the call usage it may not. Are the majority of these calls (National/local) long or short calls (if long, 13434 will only cost 5cent per call / if short calls it will still be 5c per call so the unlimited offer will/may come out on top)? How many mobile/international calls?

Obviously each person needs to tailor the choice for the situation at hand. If your BB conection comes secondary to your phone service (at €100 p/m it should) then you need to look at the tariffs that will suit your case. Something like www.callcosts.ie may be of help in doing this.

For many people, the line rental is only there so they can avail of DSL BB. For others the BB is an aside as the calls are the more expensive part of the bill.

I'm far from an authority on this, I'm just viewing the developments with interest not actively investigating the offer (we may get clarification from those more keen on the offer and getting specifics from Smart [CM ;)]). According to the website....

No mention of a time period on 6mb offer. Simply stated as 6mb standard package. Obviously it would need to be investigated/confirmed that this was for the life of the contract, but I doubt they could advertise it as standard and drop it 3 months later. I'm not saying that's not whats going to happen... but I'd imagine they'd be in hot water if it is.
 
According to email I received from Smart, they are upgrading all customers to 6MB until end of 2006.

If they are still trading of course.

I'm with Imagine and couldn't be happier. Don't think we have a calls special but we both have contract mobiles so no need. There broadband is great and we have 2MB at the mo, its 29 a month me thinks.

The broadband went down once but that was an exchange problem.

Also we have a bill problem with overcharging after we changed broadband package but was sorted with a few hours and they called to say it was all done and to apoligise.
