A friend of mine reversed his Nissan Almera saloon into a lamppost last night and is now probably needs to replace the bumper and boot lid.

Has anybody got a rough idea of the cost he is looking at?

Couple of options really
1. go to da scrappy : if you are lucky or look around for a while you may find the same color. ffit yourself or your friend : so ~€150
2. Panel Beater ! 200 - 400
3. Buy spankey new parts and get them fitted and sprayed. lots a money!

Thanks for that. I spoke to him last night and he has gone to a panel beater who can fix the boot lid but he will need to replace the bumper. I'll suggest he looks in a scrapyard for this, the car is silver so he shouldn't have a problem getting one.

From a Nissan dealer, I was quoted well over €600 for a front bumper a few years ago, so avoid if possible.

just collected our almera from garage, the damage which looked like a slight dint on the bumper turned out to be structural damage to the body of the car.... After a quote of €3500 we had to claim againt insurance!
So a slight dint can turn out to be a lot more, check the floor of the boot in case...

Avoid the dealers at all costs as it is quite expensive. I had to get a new front wing and wing mirror on my car a couple of years back; I brought it to the Daewoo dealer who quoted €1200. A local panel beater did the same for me using new parts from Daewoo for €550.

I know another guy who needed a new bumper and the hatchback lid for his Punto; Fiat quoted him £2600 (pre-Euro times) and the same panel beater which I used as above did it for about £1200 which meant he could avoid an insurance claim.
