Renting PPR while abroad?

Yes, I think you're both right. It does seem to be too much hassle for something that I don't really need to do. It's not as if it's vital I have property when I return. Selling now and banking the gains, using a chunk to finance travelling/working abroad, would be a good option.

I think that's actually what I wanted to do at the start before I got all those crazy ideas a few months back :D

do what i did..chance your arm and hope you get away with it...

Your advice is to commit fraud and hope you get lucky?
I'm just glad that from reading the posts of the OP they'll know enough to disregard this "advice" immediately! (AAM isn't the right place to give advice to carry out illegal actions!).

The words "interest and penalties" vs. "nobody ever lost money taking a profit" I know which side I'd edge towards.

Exactly! Last thing I want to do is go abraod with that cr*p hanging over my head. Anyway, I'm not the type of person that tries to cheat their way through life. I'd rather earn my privileges.

If you bought the apartment less than two years ago you would incur a clawback of stamp duty.
The law clearly states that the only permissible renting is under the rent-a-room scheme. This involves still living there. Hard to manage when abroad.
What your friend suggests is the very thing the clawback was meant to catch.
