trade in or sell privately?

hi all,
going to get a new deisel octavia ,just wondering if i should trade
in my 98 astra (note its a 1.2!) or sell privately?
any idea how much astra is worth??94k on clock genuine.

sell privately and negoiate hard for the car you are buying.
You'll get 3-4K for the Astra dependent on condition and service history, you won't get much more or even that from the dealer especially if the dealer doesn't think the car is good enough to sell on his own forecourt and must sell as a "trade" vehicle.
Get into the sellers mindset: 1.2 litre is not "bad", a 1.2 is "young driver insurance friendly" car!

thats exactly what im thinking as regards a 1.2.
also i recon you're v close to the mark in relation to price.
a deisel octavia is what im going for.even though i'm only doing
12k per year!i know,i know,im a fool but love the car.

Just read your post,
i've been advised to get a deisel and i drive about 17-19k a year.. is this advice correct or would i be better off getting a petrol? The deisel seem to be more expensive.

Fred, you never mentioned in your other thread what version you are going for? I have the price list for the new Octavia at home and can't see any of the diesels priced at rrp 27075??? Just curious
