Am looking for somewhere to go with spouse and three kids (aged 3 - 10) for weekend break(s) from Dublin. Can't be more than two hours (maybe three if destination is really worth it) drive. Could be hotel, or nice rentable self catering accommodation. Needs some distraction/activities. Could be pool, or horses,or, well I don't know really. But something for kids to get occupied with. We always say we must do this, but then can never think of anywhere to suit both parents and little people.

And before anyone mentions Kelly's Hotel in Rosslare, yes it has everything but is sooooo expensive. Budget is flexible, but not flexible up to that degree.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

If you wanted to go as far as the galway the days hotel is ideal, ther is a pool in it, and there is kids club for ages 3 and up also there is a cinema up the road s well

Carlingford in Co. Louth is very nice. Not too far from dublin. Lots of b and b and self catering accomadation etc. also advanture centre where kids can do activities etc. nice for walks etc. also nice pubs and restaurants.

was going to mention carlingford but not sure the adventure centre isnt for adults. Tain village in omeath but probably closed now. Newcastle in Co Down is brilliant for kids. miniature golf, pitch and put, boat rides, helter skelter slide, and an amusement park in the centre were you pay by the hour and just lets the kids run free. usually a fun fair too and theres an outdoor pool along the promonade. . lots of b+bs and the slieve donard hotel has a seperate restaurant in the grounds which is reasonable ( percy french I think) no problem with parking at this time of year and there is also Tollymore forest park nearby and also silent valley reservoir and dam. but it might be a little late in the year for most of these places
( Sterling unfortunately , but no more expensive when you work it out)

In a couple of weeks time the Spa and Leisure centre will be open in Farnham Estate, 5 kms from Cavan town, the hotel is open now and is ab gorgeous (the wife will love the spa treatments!), it's set on an estate of 1300 acres, lots of walks etc, they are only open 4 weeks so you might get a deal. Wait 'til the leisure centre and spa open though. try www.farnhamestate.com or , enjoy !

Thanks to all for the suggestions. That Farnham Estate looks v nice - hadn't heard of it.
