Travelling to London, from Dublin at the end of the month with my 9 year old neice. She is currently on her mothers passport so she won't actually have any ID with her. Ryan Air website states that no ID is required for under 11's but I wondered if anyone faced any issues with travelling with a child who has no ID?

We regularly travel with our kids, all of whom except the eldest (>16) are simply named on our own passports, and we've never had a problem with Ryanair — even with the 15-year-old and the 12-year-old, as recently as a month ago.

I'm not sure where you got the thing about under 11's..? From the Ryanair website:
Photo-ID for children under 16 years is not required in the following circumstances:
  • Children travelling with an adult on UK domestic flights and UK-Republic of Ireland-UK routes.
  • Children included on the passport of the parent with whom they are travelling.
I know you're not her parent, but she would seem to fit into the first category, here...?

Hi sorry, under 11 was inaccurate. Under 16 it should have read. Yes she falls into this category, however I'm wondering if anyone has ever faced issues travelling to the UK with a child who has no ID.

Never had any problem with Ryanair travelling to and from UK . BMIbaby once asked for their birth certs which we didn't have - and they let us on anyway after a supervisor was called. That was about 2 years ago.

Our last two flights were Seville-Stansted and (the following day) Stansted-Shannon — bang in the middle of the hightened security alert on the weekend of 11/12 August — and we'd no problems.

thanks DrM....but in your case, the children are named on your passports...in this case I won't have a thing......

I'll think I'll get her mum to provide the birth cert just in case of any queries....Don't want the poor child traumatised in the event of any hairy security questions....
