Misleading contract cleaners

We had a contract cleaning company in to clean our home. They said it cost €30 per hour so that seemed reasonable. 3 girls came and cleaned the house in only 4.5 hours. We were expecting a bill of 135 but we got a bill for €405. When we queried it, it turns out that they charge €30 per girl per hour. So we had to pay for 3 X 4.5 hours. 3 Polish girls so id say that company is making a nice few bob on their hard work.

we havent paid it yet. thats what they are billing us thought. it wasnt as much ordinary domestic as removing dust and grime with their steam vac. It wasnt my choice :) . The partner wouldnt listen to my opinion on it!

Would it still be an issue if they had sent one cleaner for 13.5 hours?

It does seem a lot of time (and a very high price) to clean a home, but depends on the work involved etc.

Did you get anything in writing?

Whatever about your complaint about the price what's wrong with companies making money off the surplus value of its employees' labour? That's what capitalism is all about!

It certainly didnt need 13.5 hours. All it involved was running the steam cleaner up and down the skirts & door frames & kitchen presses in the kitchen, living room and 3 bedrooms. They told us they were sending out a team of 2..which would be 270. We didnt ask for the third person. As i tried to tell herself, we didnt need contract cleaners, so now im basking in the glory of being right!:)

we have nothing in writing and we have not signed anything either.

we agreed to a team of 2 for 9 hours @ €30 an hour, but they did not specify that a team of 2 would equate to €60 an hour.

Hi There

I just wanted to say that there seems to be two issues here - firstly that you agreed on a price and then they changed it and brought someone else into the job without agreeing with you first, so why dont you just pay them what you agreed.
I also have to ad though that i have a small cleaning company and that cleaning is a slow job especially if it is done well. I cleaned a house with three medium bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sitting room, study, kitchen, dining room, hall, stairs, landing the other day with another girl and it took us 6.5 hours, so that is a combined time of 13 hours. This was a domestic clean including a bit of tidying up, but everything inside the house was spotless - windows, all skirting, doors, beds, upholstery hoovered etc etc, and we really did work hard so please dont under estimate the time it takes to clean. If it was so easy, there would be no need for cleaners!
