Hi all,
Im building a house at the minute and I cant so much as leave a deck brush onsite over night but its robbed the next day. Can anybody tell me whats a way around this, obviously a container is one solutuion but that would cost a fortune,we are builing by direct labour so the builder doesnt have his own container onsite!!Can anyone advise me on what to do.

Bodding?

Bodding, also known as bread pudding, is a traditional Belgian dessert, made from stale bread, milk, sugar, raisins and apples. It may be made to use up stale bread or even cookies and other cakes.

Hi aisling,
where is the site located? Is it near a built up area?

Is it possible that it is the people working on the site who are robbing from you? (before I cause a riot, I'm just querying!!)

do you have insurance?

Actually; do you now regret going direct labour? Just curious.

Just realised; I've asked all questions, without offering a solution!

i dont think you have any choice but to bring everything with you . does the builder have a van?
insurance isnt an option as it would not be worth claiming for small tools

Rent a 20 ft shipping container and buy a good padlock. Costing us 1k to rent one for a year, delivered to our site.

Hi AislingKelly,

I would agree with Fingalian, we built a house last year, using a lorry container, cost us Eur1200 for 18 months, (such a relief to have it taken away!).

If you're building a garage you might consider having it built before the house then securing it and getting rid of the container.

Good luck with the build,

Put up a camera and make sure you have posters stating the same, even if it is a fake camera it will do the trick

I thought it was illegal not to have your site secured off with fencing????

A bit a of fencing isn't going to deter your determined bodder.

Call the plod - they are sure to put an end to the bod on your sod! Failing that that get a mod with a rod and there will be no more bod of your hod, thank god!

(too far, I know)

When you have your house built the first thing you will need will be a garden shed to hold your mower and other tools even if you are building a garage you may need a seperate shed for bits and pieces so why not buy one now as there not too expensive and it will do as a small lock up,not fool proof I know but at least its a deterrent and you can always sell it when your finished

You might even say that fencing is their raison d'd’être!

You can buy 8ft shipping containers on ebay for around €1000, and maybe double that to allow for shipping it to you. I'm not sure how much a 20ft would cost, but it seems like (from the rental figures quoted above) the yield would be worth going into the container rentals business! Certainly more lucrative than residential property!

We purchased our container recently and it cost us €1,400. At least when we are finished with it (waiting for pp) we can sell it on again. Would recommend having somthing like that on the site to put everthing into when your finished at the end of each day otherwise things will go missing!!!
