I am thinking of buying a new Golf GTI (DSG version) and was wondering if anyone has one and what do they think?

I haven't got one, but they are reckoned to be a very fine car.

I own the GTI's biggest rival :D

Hmmm, i wonder what that could be....

Did you ever hear of any trouble from vandals etc?

Hi I have one and its the DSG version too - best car I have owned. Had a TT before this. ANything you want to know in particular about it? Faster than the TT it replaced (was 180bhp) but doesnt look as sporty and as such doesnt get as much attention (good and bad)

Good to hear you are delighted with it. I was thinking about getting the manual but when i test drove the DSG i was totally impressed. Loads of power in it and very comfortable also.

I suppose the only thing niggling with me is that does it draw the attention of the wrong sort!! I want a car that i can enjoy driving and then at the same time not to be worried where i park it. I know there are certain areas in the country that no matter what you drive you would not park there, however if the car is a magnet for vandalism, you might feel that it might just not be worth the trouble.

Re: New Golf GTI

So Ciaran
Did you get a golf GTI?
If so which one did you get?

I am thinking of getting one of these too. test drove both the the manual and DSG and can't make up my mind.
Another dilemma I have is 3 door or 5. And what colour?!
Which did you go for in the end?

Spoke too soon. Front wing vandalised last week. We reckon it was just kicked in - and with great foce too.

It may pop out, but I doubt it.

Optimum (imho) is 3 door, dsg, in white.

I think it looks very ordinary in black and grey and silver. Red or white for me.

Guys and Gals.......

Let's not get carried away......It's still a peoples wagon !

Hello all. I have a DSG Mk5 3 door in black and it is a truely awesome machine. I cannot compliment DSG enough. It gives you a fully auto box for town and traffic, the option of instantly going manual with the paddles as you desire and a fully manual system for the back roads. This really is the gearbox of the future. It also gives you launch control- now that is a treat..

I've had mine for nine months now and love it. Its torque and bhp figures may read as being less impressive than the Focus ST but it really has plenty of torgue and pulls amazingly well. It does however eat tyres. VW gives Conti Sport Contact 2's as standard but i've found them crap and have already put two new Eagle F1's on the front.

Regarding security, I got a tracker fitted to mine so I don't really worry about its safety. It does draw a lot of attention from boy racers looking for a race but stick it into sport mode(another advanage of the DSG box and it will rev and rev and..)

For anyone who has the yoyo's go out and treat yourself. You WON'T be disappionted!

I sense the people's choice is Black, 3 dr and DSG. Actually good to hear from so many other GTI owners. Maybe should start a GTI owners forum!

Having given it some thought, I've gone for a red DSG. Can't get the picture of the brochure out of my head

Thanks for all your quotes, people do get interested...

I haven't bought it yet as i am getting a new one and there is no point in getting it in 2006. Will be ordering it in the next week or so for dlivery first week 2007.

I am still unsure on which gear box to get. I have test driving the DSG and manual and initialy i feel in love with the DSG. However, afterwards i felt that for a drivers car, a manual would give you more pleasure on the open road.

I would be interested in undersatnding more about the "Launch Control" as per Surbs above. What is this?

Also, i though with the DSG gearbox you had automatic and you could select manual using the paddles on the stearing wheel. Does the DSG gear box also have triptronic?

Also, how much does a tracker cost?

Finally, my spec will also include:

Blue Graphite paint
Radio controls on steering wheel
18" alloys
Centre armrest
Beige leather interior.

What do you think?????

If you want manual controls, you have that option with the DSG in manual mode by flicking the gear stick up or down, without having to pay the extra for the steering wheel paddles.
I've heard the 18 inch alloys can make the ride pretty bumpy, and given the Irish roads, that could be quick uncomfortable.
If I was going for leather I'd go for the black...having said that, given the choice I'd stick with the Alcantra trim...very comfortable and a lovely feel. Good luck with your choice

Well I've had my GTI nearly 2 weeks now. Motoring with an ear to ear grin in my face, except when I have to go to the garage to fill up with petrol.
However, I do feel it must be attracting the attentions of less respecting folk.....my front grill GTI badge has been swiped!

well today i picked up my GTI, ended up picking up a demo one with the exact spec i was looking for. It ended up €5,500 cheaper than i would have to pay in new year, so me delighted.

Question now, insurance on car. I am insuredwith Hibernian for €650. Is that good or bad?
