Can tradesmen tell the time ?

What is the story with Tradesmen these days. When they say they will call at a certain time, why the hell dont they ? A plumber was to call round at seven pm last night...... I waited and waited, called his mobile,....no reply. I figured he just decided to hell with me and went to the pub to watch the Ireland match. This is not an isolated incident either, I have experienced the same with sparks, painters, tilers etc...
I wouldnt mind so much if tey called and said they would be late or had to postpone. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing, or does the Twilight Zone just surround my house ?

Re: Can Tradesmen tell the time ??

Supply and demand issue. Quality and standards are in a real mess at present. Personally, when trading, the first thing I ensured was that I had all contact details for customers (old and new), as delays were sometimes inevitable due to other work complications and emergency work situations.

In fairness, I also experienced many delays in getting payment when promised and customers not being there to pay at the time promised.

Thread moved - this is a Letting Off Steam and not a Homes and Gardens issue.

If you deal with sufficient numbers of tradesmen, you can find the ones who keep good time. Pay them well and promptly and they'll treat you well in future.
(Very important if you're a landlord)

If you're living in the twilight zone then so am I! I'm finding it very difficult to get quotes for building work. No one seems to turn up when they say they will and with few exceptions, no one bothers to cancel!:(

I understand the supply/demand issue but why say you'll call at a specific date and time when some, at any rate, have no intention of turning up!!

Why not set those sites up yourself if you think that they are needed?

Lack of time and lack of the appropriate skillset, but given the popularity of ratemysolicitor and ratemyauctioneer i doubt i'm the first to think of it. Doubtless someone will do it sooner or later. Mind you given the recent mcd/boards problems it's probably a legal minefield too, more's the pity.

My plumber may not always turn up when he says he is going to but ....

When my attic water tank burst he was around within 40 minutes and stayed 'till it was sorted.

No wonder he doesnt always turn up on time - Urgent work comes first.
