Did anyone watch this last night? I missed it, missus car watched and said some guy had an innovative piece of DJ software that the dragons were very interested in. Can anyone describe what it was and did? I cant seem to get the show to play on the bbc broadband link. Prob need to be regged with an english ISP. Great show, hate missing it.

Dragons Den Mixing Software

This is a response to a thread in shooting the breeze, which i cannot access but it relates to this area also.

The software mixed in different dance tunes like a D.J would in a club. So you could buy different tunes and run them through this software and it would seamlessly mix them. It was really impressive and he was insane to sell 40% of his company for 150K. He had the patent on this technology the one dragon that understood it, he would not sell to as his advise was to sell it to one of the big music companies and take a royalty, make a killing with no risk. However young entrepreneur decided to take two of the other dragon’s money who obliviously didn’t have a clue.

It was really good all the dragons bar one wanted it; one could not invest as he had a conflict of interest. I was hoping the young guy would play the arrogant parasites off each other. He was naive he should have played hardball with them walked out with nothing except amazing advertising. This product will defo be a winner, he would have no problem getting backers.

its a program that automatically mixes two records - quality I thought, I have a few friends that are djs and they spent years mastering this skill.

Dragons Den - now theres a decent programme

I can't get the online play working either. I think it is repeated on Tues or Weds next late on BBC2.

I checked this out myself last week following the announcement at the end of the programme that it was available for online viewing. The extract below is from the FAQ on 'watching BBC Two video' ([broken link removed]):

For many programmes, there are broadcast rights restrictions, which do not allow us to show BBC Two programmes and content to people outside the UK. In addition, broadband content is expensive for the BBC to stream, so we have to give priority to people within the UK, who ultimately bear the cost of us doing this through their licence fee.
Some BBC programmes are available via our international services (see bbc.co.uk/info/channels) or through agreements with commercial broadcasters overseas.

If you can find an open web proxy in the UK then you can use it to view BBC programs online.

Configure your browser (temporarily) to connect through an open UK proxy in order to access content that is normally restricted to UK users. Connecting this way makes it look like you are based in the UK as far as the target website is concerned. For example see this list. If this is still gobbledygook to you then don't bother messing with your browser settings in case you break something permanently and get somebody who knows what they're doing to configure things for you.

caught the rerun last night. Dont know if it'll work in the open market, reason, it will only mix dance songs which he emphasised several times. Most of the current dance songs released have a similar BPM (beats per minute), circa 125-130BPM, his software synchs the 2, by altering the speed of the BPM thereby slowing or speeding the song. I find if a songs BPM is more then 10% out of its BPM range then its not usable. So if hes only working off the BPMs hes even restricting his market further to dance songs that are within a BPM range. While not online, there are several pieces of software that does this already for professional DJs, all do the exact same auto synch thing. It may be using other aspects of the song to mix but it would be very intuitive to do so and Ive yet to see a piece of software that did. Still good though, I think I would have jumped at the other offer to sell the company and take the royalty option.
