Hi,
I'm looking to get a True HD lcd TV at the moment and was wondering where other people have bought from?

I'd like at least a 42" with progressive scanning at true hd quality.

Are there any international sites that ship for free to Eire?
Thanks,
R

I'm not convinced about HD tv's. They may look great on Nat Geographic but have yet to wow me. I preditc tv's will in a year or two as, with most technologies, when they are bettered, they are atleast doubled. I'll be holding out until I can see Deirdre Barlow in the best possible image. Oh wait, on second thought, I'm fine with my current 14inch black and white.

At 42 inches, I have heard that plasma is a better option than LCD, but then again there are so many differing opinions out there it's hard to know.

There is a German site that looks very good value (caveat emptor) that I saw mentioned on www.boards.ie before that might be worth a look (the name escapes me), and did a colleague of mine a very good deal on a 32" LCD (insurance was €100-not sure about shipping).

I'd say you would do very well to get free delivery-even Power City and DID charge.

your picture quality will only be as good as the service you are being provided with. A lot of the digital packages have so many stations on them that they are so compressed, by the time they end up on your TV the image can look quite pixilated. Im with Chorus at the moment and have a 37" LCD, and while the picture quality on the actual TV is great (when viewing a DVD) sometimes the signal provided by chorus can be very pixilated.
It annoys me when i hear their Advert.... "crystal clear sound & vision"

I have heard other friends with different suppliers complain of the same thing.

I dont know about the HD picture quality as i havent seen it on a domestic TV, however I have worked with HD in a professional enviroment (im an editor) and it is absolutely stunning to look at when viewed on a HD monitor.

The strange thing about "digital" TV though is that the signal coming into your home is via a RC cable. Which is analogue.

In particular I'm buying a TV that will work with the PS3 and blu-ray which are both true HD formats.

Not wishing to sound sarcastic, or to put you off from posting, but based on comments like this, I think you should do a little bit more research before buying your TV.

And you are probably not going to notice the difference between 1080i and 1080p on a 42 TV unless you sit very close to it.

What do you mean by this? For your information what I don't know about LCD TVs could fit on the back of a stamp.

If you haven't got anything constructive to add don't bother posting.

I think what he means is that PS3 is NOT a HD format per se but a Playstation 3 games console with an integrated blu-ray player... (and for c. €700 for a console, upon release, Sony can keep it...)

Maybe your stamp should be a postcard...

PS3 is a console which can output HD formats not a format itself.

Similarily Blu-ray is not a HD format itself it is an optical disc format with high density storage capacity which can be used to hold HD format video or data.

HD Formats are formats such as 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

Just wanted to say I'm a big fan of the LCD TVs. Got the 40'' Samsung LCD HD with the black surround and v-shape bottom last christmas. The picture is brilliant. Far better than any plasma I have seen. I bought some kind of special booster cable aswell, which is meant to help.

Only problem is I live in an apartment and am not allowed a satellite dish. I'm with NTL at the moment, but they do not offer HD broadcasts. Is there any other company who do?

I have this LCD too and love it. Have the matching cinema system too which is great. What's this special booster cable? Should I have one of these too? :D

Yeah, got one of the sony surround sound systems to go with mine, great combination. The assistant in the shop seemed to know his stuff (Although they are there to sell, sell, sell). It's a special scart lead that costs about E80 - E120 that runs from the DVD sound system to the TV. It's meant to give a fantastic picture with DVDs.

Sounds good, must tell the boyfriend about it, he loves new gadgets for the TV! Thanks!

€80 to €120 is mad money for a scart lead. You can buy top of the line IXOS scarts from EBay for about €35 (same ones are €70 in the shops)

Wish I had known that.
