Mercedes B Class

I am driving a Renault Scenic 2004 and am on the look out for a new car. I took a test drive in a Mercedes B Class a few weeks ago and thought it was lovely. It is roughly the same size as the Scenic and it was the 150 model

Does anyone have one and if so I would really appreciate your comments good or bad.

You're either a Mercedes lover or you're not. What with ugly cars (IMHO), poor quality build, and high maintenance cost I'd rather buy a Reliant Robin!

Sorry for ranting, but at least it will push your post back up! :)

I can only agree with the comment on build quality. I got a new E Class in Jan, so far: air bags failed requiring rewiring of detectors, petrol cap lock jammed which involved tearing out all the boot liner and injuring my hand to manually release on the side of the road whilst talking it through with a mercedes service guy on the phone, then parking brake pedal cover fell off, yesterday airbag failed light is on again.

I heard of the Mercedes quality problem but salesman assured me that 2006 models were sorted.

Waiting for the next issue ......still less than 5,000 miles on clock

Mercedes are living on former glories. Still, as long as people perceive them to be a prestige car, then it's a prestige car.

A couple of years back I read a case study on Mercedes production techniques... Because they know the price point/price sensitivity of a car in any given class, they first decided on the sales price, built in their desired profit margin, and then built the car within budget. Suffice to say it has lead to problems.

Wow. I'm glad I asked. One of the reasons that I looked at Mercedes was that I perceived them as reliable, but after my Renault I suppose anything would be. LOL
The basic car model was very basic so I added on a few things like air conditioning, leather seats etc just to get an idea of price and although they didnt give me an exact price, they did say roughly 16,500 on top of my own.
I may have to look around again.

Ho Ho Ho Ho! They must think its Christmas at your Mercedes dealer. (For them, not for you).

Do you reallly need a people carrier? If not check out some of the bigger second hand saloons knocking around at the moment. You'd be able to buy a 2002 fully kitted out Merc S Class for close on the money they've quoted you. (Not that you'd want the running costs).

Pity one cannot copy and paste... The first review I came upon for Mercedes B class was from autotrader, and they rated it "average" and said, 'Some cars create image, others - like the B class - trade on it' - Ouch!

Check Parkers.co.uk (very handy) and they will tell you what other cars similar to any car are available - very good site.

The problem with new car reviews is that they can't predict the future. I don't think I'd ever consider buying a new car in its first year of manufacture. Possibly with the exception of the New Civic.

A friends boss bought the CLS AMG last year. It spent 4 months back at the dealership with problems, mainly the alarm system. It got to the stage where the guy was afraid to lock the car, because it wouldn't start when he tried to unlock it. Merc replaced the car with a 06 model for free to keep him sweet.
