Hi

I'm looking to get to the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre on Saturday - can anybody suggest a route taking into account the road closures detailed below

What gate is closest to the Visitor Centre?

"On Sat 12 & Sun 13 Aug Motor Races will take place in Phoenix Park
The following roads will be closed from 7am until 7pm; Chesterfield Avenue between Castleknock Gate and the Phoenix Monument; Survey Road between Mountjoy Cross and its junction with Furze, Knockmaroon and
Upper Glen Road; Upper Glen Rd; Whitefields Rd; Back Road between Mountjoy Cross and Cabra Gate and Knockmaroon Rd. Castleknock Gate and Knockmaroon Gate will also close.
Traffic will be diverted at Chesterfield Avenue at the Phoenix Monument and at Cabra Gate. Entry will be restricted to hospital traffic only at Chapelizod Gate".

Bad time to go if the Park Motor Races are on. Unless they open the road from the Blackhorse Avenue side to the Visitor Centre which is normally closed then it may not be possible to get in. Even then the place will probably be mobbed so it could be dodgy. And with the Dubs playing as well the traffic could well be chaotic all over the city and on the Northside in particular. Have you called the Visitor Centre to make sure that they are open this weekend?

Blackhorse Avenue/Cabra or Ashtown/Racecourse gates on the Northside.

The entrance to the Phoenix Park visitor centre is located beside the Phoenix Monument. You should be able to enter from Parkgate Street and go straight up the Phoenix monument (road closed from here).
Take the third exit off this roundabout (second closed) and stay left- there is a V- in the road here.
As an aside- the free tour of Aras an Uachtarain which leaves from the visitor centre is quite good. I think it just goes in the morning.

True - I misread the original post and thought that the main road (Chesterfield Avenue) was also closed between Parkgate Street and the monument. Still - I'd double check that the centre is open at the weekend just to be safe.

Thanks for the feedback.

It was the Visitor Centre who alerted me to the traffic restrictions over the weekend although they hadn't any details when I was on to them earlier in the week.
