Tradesman request for payment

it may be practice that tradesmen dont give invoices. Its still shambolic and unaceppatable. To me at least.
I agree.
It not professionsal. Its not courteous. Its dodge. I hate this kind of stuff and i wish it werent the norm.
I agree.
I pay a load of tax yet these charlatans pay watever they like. Thats not on.
Not sure about that, They have given their bank details for you to make payment, would this not be fully traceable and liable for whatever taxes etc ?

Get someone else the next time so. If you can find anyone that is.

If you ask them nicely, of course they'll give you an invoice once you pay them.

Hello,

I've recently been getting some work done - needed a few tradesmen.

Not one would even entertain a discussion on doing anything within a couple of weeks, unless it was "a cash job"

* No invoices

* No receipts (not even for the parts needed)

I was basically held to ransom, if I wanted the jobs done in any sort of reasonable time frame.

Now, a I'm about €6,000 lighter, and haven't even got certified electrical work.

The only thing I can say, was that the various tradesmen were all plesant, and each did a good job.

Having asked around, and I'm lucky to have some reliable contacts, it seems this is the absolute norm!

Afaik invoices are only required between vat registered traders. Consumers can request an invoice, and some companies are happy to give them, but the details and vat breakdown are usually in the quote. Some consumers want an invoice as proof that the trader is accounting for the vat they've paid, but that's between the trader and Revenue. Quotes for cash jobs are very common for domestic work, and IME, invoices are rarely supplied.
