An intermittent problem with tapping with the Revolut card?

About 50% of the times I tap, my Revolut card does not work. It's not that the contactless limit has been reached as I reset that when I am prompted.

I then pay with AIB Visa and it goes through fine, so it's not the retailers' machines.

Has the card just got old so I should get a new one?

At least if it's me using Google Pay I can't be in the queue glowering at them for messing around with their phone when they could have just tapped and gone with a card.

And no one glaring at you for messing around with two cards.
I've had some issues at certain retailers who are using mobile internet for the card machine.

I have also had issues with an old revolut card that was a Mastercard. It never seemed to work with those white card machines that some businesses have, or the smaller ones that that the aviva stadium use. Revolut actually made me change my card recently and its now a Visa card and it has worked fine with the white machines since then....

If your Revolut card is so unreliable and you get so annoyed about their customer service, why are you still using their system ?

Hi bstop

A good question.

It's probably getting to the point where the benefits and advantages are just not worth the hassle.

The last problem I had turned out to be a Revolut system problem and it fixed itself.

I am wondering if this problem will fix itself. It's interesting that Bluefin has the same issue.

If I thought that changing my card would fix the problem, I would do that.

I guess it's a problem with the chip in your card. If 50% of all Revolut transactions being rejected was a systemic issue it would have been resolved by now.

I have a problem with my EBS debit card. It won't work in some ATM machines but works in others here in Ireland.

I am travelling to The Netherlands shortly where almost everything is pay by card....I can't have a card that is unreliable when travelling.

This weekend I have to double check if it works in an ATM and check to see if the tap function is working.

.I can't have a card that is unreliable when travelling.

That is a very good point.

I have an AIB debit card, an AIB credit card and Revolut.

So even if Revolut is unreliable, I will hold onto it in case there is a problem with the AIB cards .

A friend of mine had their sole debit card compromised just before she went on a holiday abroad and it was very messy.

I don't have a Revolut card but when traveling I have a BoI CC and PTSB DC and at least €500 in cash with me
It's only happen once when where the area I was staying in had the internet go down for well over 24hours
and the shops, restaurants and business that could open were all on cash basis only

I have a problem with my Revolut card with one type of card machine…it’s a long white machine, probably a type of fintech/disruptor family. It’s not SumUp, but it’s something like that. It’s the machine in this instance.

If I thought that changing my card would fix the problem, I would do that.
Revolut are currently changing their cards. I got my replacement card this morning.

You should get a Curve Card. This is a free service and one of its features is an anti embarrassment mode. You can load several cards including your Revolut onto it and select your preferred card. If your preferred card is rejected it will automatically use a different loaded card.
You can also go back in time later and then revert the rejected transaction back to your preferred card. The result is no more delays at the checkout.

The problems that I am having with my EBS debit card when making an online purchase are a pure headache. I am trying to pay for a stay in a hotel. I am sent a security text to confirm my purchase that will not complete for me. I can not confirm the push notification sent to my phone.....it just buffers and buffers....

rheres a security thing where you have to use your pin every so often
There's a place in the app that shows how much if left before you'll be asked to use your pin. You can reset this in the app so that you won't have to do it at a terminal.

Go to cards, select the card you are using, then Pin and security.
