My bank manager wants to LinkIn with me ...

Ehhh. No. Not a chance. Maybe after you've drawn the mortgage down and you think he/she deserves it!

What's the harm?

Notwithstanding the removal of a lot of the bank managers' power, it can't hurt to keep one onside (or at least avoiding the possibility of having him/her offside by rejecting a LinkedIn request).

And perhaps banks are using LinkedIn to verify an applicant's bona fides?

I'm not saying that either of the above will necessarily happen, but I'm a great believer in risk management. There is no real risk in accepting the connection. There is a risk, however small, in not accepting the connection. Ergo, you should accept the connection.

it's easy enough to "unlink" him after you have got the mortgage, in effect you can block him/remove him as a connection if you want to

Don't see much issue with it. If you have nothing to hide about your linkedIn profile then what's the worry?

Could he have done it in error when looking up your account ? Seems a bit weird to me tbh unless you are on good terms and know each other a while.

Hi,

I would be of the view that it's a good thing, that your manager is trying to develop a closer, longer term relationship with you ... hardly the behaviour of someone if they feel you are going to be declined on your current application.

He might have linked in set to auto contact with any new email addresses registered to his email address?

Some people just use it this way; they add everyone they meet. I don't think adding someone usually gives them much extra info on you anyway. On the other hand, if you don't want to accept, I doubt they'll mind or even notice; I know I only get around to looking at LinkedIn connection requests maybe once a month. Few people use it daily.
