Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has gone with KBC recently and what are your thoughts of dealing with them? Our broker recommends them because they're lowest in the market but I've read on boards that they dont treat existing customers well in terms of passing on rates.
Broker has given us variable and fixed 3 yr rate as 3.3%

Hi Mariano,

I bank with KBC and find them good to deal with. Its one of the reasons I switched all of my banking to them. I have a mortgage with them and am not best pleased with the differential between rates for new and for existing customers but I can live with it for now. In general my experience has been very positive with them.

Tbh I don't know what the lowest rate is in the market so my view of them is purely based on their customer service which I find to be excellent, friendly, efficient and just easy to deal with.

You're a bankers dream. KBC are openly gouging you and giving you the two fingers with the rate they're charging you, happy to screw you because they can and could not give a toss about you. Someone in KBC is having a right laugh at you and they're right.

Hi Demoivre,

There isn't much I can do about it unfortunately because it s fixed for 3 years. what can I do?

In fairness Jim if it's fixed it's a bit different because of break clauses. I would have thought that was very obvious.

I don't follow - sorry...I was just replying to the OP to give my opinion on KBC.

Why are they laughing at me and how can I get them to stop? As far as I know, I cant do much for now about my mortgage because Im fixed..unless there is something I can do?

No bank treats its existing customers well. Go with the one offering the best rate.

I'm with KBC and have found them pretty OK to deal with. They're not super efficient but pretty much the same as any bank. You have to pay attention to what they're doing.

I use them for mortgage & some banking.

I'm switching the mortgage now because I can get cheaper elsewhere. When I move the mortgage I'll cancel my banking with them as there are cheaper products out there too. I only have their banking as it gives me .2% off my mortgage.

If I was looking for a mortgage now I'd consider them. If they have the cheapest mortgage then go for them and just re-evaluate in 5 years and switch again if needed.

Some banks pass on rate reductions to existing customers and some don't. Ulster Bank pass on rate reductions to existing customers but charge 0.05% more than KBC on a variable 80% LTV, to many it may be worth the small premium to ensure that they get rate reductions in the future.

Whilst rate will always be the most important criteria, one should factor in other criteria as well such as how the bank treats existing customers.
