Cancelling a mistaken subscription

I have just tried to join an online dating site for a month cost 30 Euro. However somehow the subscription seems to automatically default to a year so 160 euro was paid off my debit card. I did not want to join for a year – nor did I want to pay for a year. I rang the bank to cancel the subscription on the credit card however they said they could not legally cancel it. The internet dating site has no contact phone number etc. I only wanted a subscription maximum for a month. I see that there is no cooling off period allowed. What should I do?

From distant memory, typical sites offer annual or monthly membership. You don't want annual so check their terms & conditions, see if they have an email contact to correct this.

Otherwise, 2014 could be quite an eventful year!

Can you name the site?

Maybe someone can find contact details for you.
